It took you this long to catch the fact that this series is wholesale copying Yugioh with magic rules?
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. No that part was obvious, but I was hoping they'd avoid the stupidest parts of it.
Elliot does not exist in a world where the monsters in the cards are metaphysical beings in their own ri-oh wait-
Grace is imagining all this, right?
Nvm, this makes perfect sense then.
Yea, the actions are taking place in the real world, while what we're seeing is Grace's interpretation of said events.
(V)(;,,;)(V)So, he probably didn't REALLY say "I care about my monsters!" as if they're real critters then. Okay. I'll buy that.
I hope he loses.
Well, dialog is still his, so I assume he did say it. I'm taking it as that he takes his time with his strategies as to make use of what he has in his deck. He doesn't just summon a card and then senselessly sacrifice it just to summon another monster to sacrifice it like the other guy did. While he's still "caring" for his monster cards, it's more in a practical sense and not in a "These cards are alive and are going to be pissed off at you" sense that Yu Gi Oh has done in the past.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Riiiiiiiiiiight.
I want him to lose badly now.
People really into a game sometimes take it to weird levels.
(V)(;,,;)(V)We should point and laugh at these people.
Yea, but I'd rather have someone with some respect for the fun of the game rather than someone that prefers to over power through everything and taking the fun out of stuff.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Well, the power players should win, because that's what they play to do. If Shive shoehorns in Mr Tensaided losing somehow, it'll just be... dumb.
Not necessarily. If Tensaided is playing just by sacrificing a monster to summon another monster in order to sacrifice another monster, he'd run out of cards quickly. If Justin's built his deck well, he'd be able to come out on top.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Tensaided isn't an idiot. Or okay maybe he is an idiot. I think the best possible way for him to lose is if he hasn't actually played with anyone in, like, forever, because no one plays by his rules anymore.
In that case, it's entirely plausible that he'd make some kind of really stupid mistake that anyone with real experience would never make.
He does seem like someone that only plays by his own rules. If he was someone that continued to play, he'd have no choice but to adapt his play style to the new rules.
(V)(;,,;)(V)But the point is that the stipulation for this duel was to play by his rules. So it's kind of dumb for him to lose when he's playing on his own terms.
Not really, sometimes you get so sure of yourself when you feel you have the advantage that you don't even think and gloss over some fault. Like, not making sure you have enough defenses built up, or not taking your opponent seriously.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Plausible. Still, it strikes me as really dumb for the guy who basically cheats to lose, unless the reason he loses is because the person who knows he cheats cheats in the way he cheats and therefore counter-cheats. But that very game dynamic is exactly what Tensaided is saying is so awesome in the first place.
So basically, if he loses, he wins, and if he wins, he also wins.
Who said Justin has to cheat to win? He just needs to outsmart Tensaided to win. And even that isn't that hard to do since it looks like he has no strategy whatsoever.
(V)(;,,;)(V)"Cheat" in this context means using the broken rules. It doesn't mean cheating for real, it just means any situation in which the outcome of the game is rigged in one way or another.
See the anime/manga Kaiji for an example where the metagame is the plot.
I do love a truly Literary Dragon. "Thus, I give up the spear."
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Ah, you mean using the broken rules. Again, I don't see Justin as having to as long as he has a strategy that works and outwits Tens.
(V)(;,,;)(V)But again-if broken decks aren't broken, then why'd they nerf them in the first place?
If Tensaided loses, his point is proven. If he wins, well, at least he gets to kick his ass.
I think Tensaided is attempting to prove that the earlier rules/cards are superior, rather than prove specifically that their bans were unjustified per se.
While that is an argument someone could make, from what I know of Tensaided's character I doubt he would actually make it.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Pretty funny today.
As someone who knows enough to get what's said but isn't involved enough to potentially be offended by any of it, I laughed.
"The marvel is not that the Bear posts well, but that the Bear posts at all."What goes through your head when you don't care about the metagame.

No, it's a line taken directly from Yu Gi Oh
