YMMV / Yars' Revenge

The 2011 re-imagining:

  • Polished Port: The PC version is capable of running at higher resolutions and frame-rates than the Xbox 360 version, and plays well with keyboard and mouse. However, it has limited in-game settings and common PC-related settings are hidden through a command-line parameternote , and the PC version does not support keyboard or controller remapping. Raising the game's frame-rate above the display's refresh-rate can also introduce mouse movement problems.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The re-imagining's reception has been middling, many criticizing the short length, forgettable story, somewhat monotonous gameplay, and having next to nothing in common with the original Yars' Revenge. However, some enjoyed the visuals and music of the game.
  • Underused Game Mechanic: The Zorlon Cannon, the game's Smart Bomb mechanic, is only available for the last two stages of the game, and while the game claims it is unlockable from Stage 5 and onward, the Zorlon Cannon still cannot be used outside of the last two stages, not even after completing the Campaign Mode or the game's Arrange Modes.
