YMMV / Walk the Line

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Compressing Johnny Cash's life into a few hours makes him come off like kind of a Jerkass sometimes. The most prominent example would be appearing to lose interest in his wife and children only a few scenes after begging her to marry him (actually a period of over a decade). Also, some of his attempts to romance June come off poorly without context.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Robert Patrick plays Johnny Cash's father. Around the same year, this movie was made, Patrick also played Elvis Presley's father.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The scene in which Johnny's brother, Jack, dies rather gruesomely. A table saw is involved.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Cash's career after his marriage to June.
  • WTH, Casting Agency?: People were furious when it was announced that Reese Witherspoon was cast as June Carter. She later proved them wrong, giving the most praised female performance of 2005, winning every award, including the Academy Award.
