YMMV / Victor Vran

Go To

  • Demonic Spiders: Literally. There's a monster named "Demonic Spider" (which is, guess it... a Giant Spider); it is tough, hits like a truck, and has a jumping ability (which makes it quite hard to target) which slows you if it lands on you.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Scythes are quite fast, inflict very high damage, and hit several enemies with a single swing. Their special attack makes Victor spin, hitting the surrounding enemies very quickly, while giving the player character a temporary armour bonus; the only limitations are the short time of the effect and the ability's cooldown. Using it in the middle of a crowd of mooks can slaughter dozens of them in a couple of seconds, and champion monsters can have more than half of their hitpoints drained by this tactic.
    • When combining a life-draining scythe with a vampire destiny card (it gives the same effect), you get two stacking life-draining effects with a powerful weapon. And guess what? The spinning special attack mentioned above benefits from it, too. Enjoy watching your scythe-wielding human-whirlwind mowing through mooks like a red hot knife through butter while automatically healing a sizable portion of his life meter. It's also a perfectly viable tactic against champions.
    • Each consumable has a cooldown. When both consumable slots are occupied by the same item, each one has its own cooldown, which allows to drink potions faster, which can be rather helpful with healing potions (they are cheap and drop often, anyway). And then, there are the Alchemist destiny cards, which decrease the consumables' cooldown. With an Alchemist card with a high enough level and healing potions in each consumable slots, you only need to wait a couple of seconds before drinking another potion, which makes most bossfights trivially easy.
    • Finger of Chaos is an unique rapier. When repeatingly swinging it, the fourth swing and each of the following create a missile which hits a random target (or the player's target, if there's nothing else around). Since rapiers have a very fast attack speed, it's possible to wipe large groups of enemies by focussing on the toughest one while letting the magic missiles killing the surrounding mooks.
    • The Mikkeys legendary revolvers from Motörhead Through the Ages. They have the advantages of their weapon class (they shoot fast and allow to move while shooting), and their own attributes (vampiric healingnote , fast filling of the Overdrive meter, and inflicting the "Headbanging"note  effect to the surrounding enemies) make this weapon very efficient for crowd control.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The Überwald/Steampunk setting, the mysterious badass hero with a nice hat, the non-stop action... It's basically Van Helsing: The Action RPG.
  • Spiritual Successor: On it's surface, it's easy to compare to more recent titles like The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing and Diablo 3. However, it really feels more like a modern take on the classic console-based co-op dungeon crawlers that were popular in the early to mid 2000s:
  • Woolseyism: In the French version, the Pumpking boss has been renamed "Sire Trouille" (literally "Sir Fear", it's also a pun on the French word for "Pumpkin").
