YMMV / Tides of War

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Rhonin may be seen as a Creator's Pet, but it's hard to continue disliking him in the wake of his Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Ass Pull: For those who observed Garrosh in action during Cataclysm, his sudden leap to cartoonish levels of villainy feels really contrived and out-of-nowhere. Golden offered the explanation that Garrosh is The Corruptible and was likely influenced by Malkorok and other ill-natured advisers, but that feels like a paltry explanation that glosses over the leaps and bounds Garrosh would have to go through to reach that level of Aesop Amnesia and evilness.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Jaina asking the Kirin Tor what will it take for them to ditch their neutrality, asking them if they would remain neutral if Teldrassil was burning, meant to show how paranoiac she was becoming? The Horde ends up putting it to the torch in Battle For Azeroth.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Despite the tragedy of Theramore’s destruction, it is touching to see a troll shaman in the Earthen Ring comfort a draenei friend while indicating outrage over what happened.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • The destruction of Theramore, for Garrrosh.
    • Malkorok killing a tavern full of innocent people just because of two dissidents.
  • Tear Jerker: Kalecgos disbanding the Blue Dragonflight. In the end he's standing all alone at the top of the Nexus.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Jaina's feelings over falling being betrayed by the Horde planning on invading Theramore and acting as if Theramore wasn't a proper military target fall flat since the Northwatch Expeditionary Unit, who proudly wear the Theramore tabard, was invading Horde lands in Durotar, Azshara, and the Southern Barrens, while also fighting to claim the Stonetalon Mountains for the Alliance.
