- "Funny Aneurysm" Moment and Harsher in Hindsight: Homer is shown having stolen the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor given to Dr. Haing S. Ngor for The Killing Fields. Only a month after it first aired, Dr. Ngor was murdered, which would make viewers today think Homer killed him for it. In syndication and on the season seven DVD set, the scene was changed to show the Oscar being the one given to Don Ameche for Cocoon, who had died a few years earlier, but of natural causes.
- In Memoriam: This episode was dedicated to Doris Grau, the voice of Lunchlady Doris, who died a week before its original airing. This was Lunchlady Doris' last appearance until season 9's "Lisa's Sax", before being brought back on a regular basis in season 18, now voiced by Tress MacNeille.
- Squick: Mr. Burns losing a nail in Homer's beer. And his remark on it only makes it worse.
Mr. Burns: Whoops. Lost a nail. Well, that's leprosy for you.
