  • Glurge: It's supposed to be an uplifting story about a man who meets the Holy Trinity and learns to move on from his daughter's murder, but completely ignores the fact that Mack ''poisoned his father and got away with it'' when he was 13, not to mention that the killer of said daughter is also a Karma Houdini, and is still out there possibly slaughtering more children.
    • Made worse that in the book Mack is able to use what he saw to find his daughter's body, which in turn allows them to find the killer.
  • Informed Wrongness: The film's message is not to get revenge on someone who wronged you and to forgive them instead. This message falls very flat considering Mackenzie's own daughter was murdered and the killer got away with it.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Mackenzie. He was abused by his father who was a pastor and then his daughter was kidnapped and murdered. It is perfectly understandable why he should be angry.
  • Memetic Mutation: Was released around the same time The Nutshack was a meme, so the comparisons/adding "nut" to the movie's posters was sort of bound to happen.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Your child being kidnapped and murdered on a camping trip from out of nowhere.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Mackenzie poisoned his own father and got away with it. We are to look at him as a kid who is trying to escape his situation but knowing he could've gotten help instead of killing his father, this leans him into a villainous side.
