These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
YMMV: The Perishers
Growing the Beard: Generally agreed to have happened when Ben Witham was replaced by Maurice Dodd — the early strips are at best regarded as generic and So Okay, It's Average, and at worst, horribly unfunny.
Replacement Scrappy: A real life instance. The strip's immediate replacement was one idolizing the Brazillian soccer player Ronaldinho, in a fairly transparent effort to gain publicity from the 2006 World Cup. One small problem... Ronaldinho was the player whose goal had knocked England out of the previous World Cup. Needless to say, the strip got dropped pretty quickly, and the Daily Mirror started importing Pooch Café instead. That one was somewhat better received, but its reliance on American pop culture references prevented it from ever becoming very popular.
