• Character Rerailment: This episode is this for Mr. Freeze, at least according to Bruce Timm. As noted on the Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero Trivia page, Timm was dissatisfied with Nora's recovery at the end of the film and the happy ending that it provided for Freeze. This episode therefore serves to "fix" what Timm felt had been broken. However, many fans feel that Freeze's needlessly spiteful cruelty is more like the opposite.
• Jerkass Woobie: Mr. Freeze went from Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds to this, because of his wife leaving him and his body having deteriorated entirely except for his head.
• Moral Event Horizon: In-story, this is the point when Batman stops treating Freeze as an Anti-Villain. In their previous meeting, Batman went well out of his way to help Freeze and even contributed to saving Nora. By his next appearance in Batman Beyond, Bruce has no sympathy for Freeze whatsoever. Trying to kill Alfred probably had something to do with it.
