- Fanon: The commentary on the DVD says that the man in the train station might well have been Bixby's Shout-Out to Flint from the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Requiem For Methuselah".
- Space Whale Aesop: Religion is just mixed-up superstition. It should only be about peace and loving yourself, because Jesus was an immortal man who was trying to teach Buddhism until he faked his death.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
- As soon as religion comes up, all the other potential in the plot is chucked aside.
- Neither Edith (Christian) nor Harry (Jewish, raised on the Torah, the background of Christianity) make any attempt to explore or refute John's claims to be Jesus.
- Nobody asks John for more on how he slowed down his body functions to appear dead, nor if he could demonstrate it.
