* AdaptationDisplacement: The TV show is better known to some than the original books; in fact, a new series of paperbacks went into print based on the TV episodes.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Is Ms. Frizzle something like a Willy Wonka who is teaching the class to find a successor to the Magic School Bus?
** Is Ms Frizzle a normal human or not? She's implied to be [[OlderThanTheyLook older]] than her roughly 30-to-mid-40s look, and she is into magic.
** Is the school bus really magic or is it science? Or perhaps [[{{Magitek}} both?]] It's an oddity that a science teacher would be involved with magic. ClarkesThirdLaw comes into effect.
* CrackShip: Some of the fandom likes involving Ms. Frizzle in crossover lesbian relationships with MaryPoppins (both are [[Series/DoctorWho Time Lords]], apparently) or CarmenSandiego.
** According to tumblr, Carlos apparently grows up to be the perfect, wonderful scientist who moves into [[Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale Night Vale]] and falls in love with the host, Cecil.
* CrazyAwesome: Ms. Frizzle of course. It's probably her defining character trait.
* DarkFic: A more depressing than dark example as a [[http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/512598 Flash Animation]], following Ms. Frizzles class the following school year. No longer being in Ms. Frizzles' class, Arnold is an abusive and foul-mouthed {{jerkass}}, Tim and Ralphie are both potheads, Carlos continues to tell horrible jokes only to be beat up (by Arnold) for it, and none of them seem to carry any sort of social skills or even rudimentary math or general education (outside of science, of course).
** There's also a fanmade trailer for a hypothetical [[TheMovie movie]] that ''opens'' with the kids (now young adults) at Ms. Frizzle's funeral (which Arnold ''skips'', citing that he needed to stay home that day), Wanda delivering her "What are we going to do?" catchphrase in tears, Ms. Frizzle having gone to hell for a reason no one can figure out and Arnold calling Ms. Frizzle "the woman who ruined my life!", prompting Ralphie to pin him to the wall while snarling "Take it back!"
** As per any show like this, there is an endless supply of trollfics. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIyeKEcyUZY This one]], though, probably takes the cake in sheer absurdity.
* EarWorm: The theme song (performed by Music/LittleRichard), and the {{leitmotif}} of the start of each field trip that derives from it.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: [[FountainOfMemes Carlos.]]
* FunnyAneurysmMoment: One episode dealing with the parallel between baking and chemistry has a baker sing a silly cooking song to the tune of the ''Torriador March'' from ''Theatre/{{Carmen}}.'' Twenty years later, ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' turns this song into NightmareFuel.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In "Out of This World," aired years before [[ScienceMarchesOn Pluto's demotion]], the class is rehearsing a play about the solar system where they each play a different planet, but Dorothy Ann is late, so they had to start without her planet... ''Pluto''.
** In "The Busasaurus" Carlos says "Mmm-mmm, Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses was good!"
** [[Series/MindOfMencia A terrible Hispanic comedian named Carlos...]]
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Arnold. He's been shipped with ''everyone'' - everyone in his class, Ms. Frizzle, Molly Cule, that guy from the hot cocoa episode (Harry Arm), that girl from the water cycle episode (Tiffany), Janet, [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Az]][[CrackShip u]][[CrossoverShip la]]...
* LoveToHate: Janet, Janet, a thousand times over, Janet.
* MemeticMutation:
** "CARLOS!" [[LamePunReaction as a response to]] his [[{{Pun}} terrible puns]].
** Also, footage from the show seems to be popular for WebAnimation/YouTubePoop (although, given the NostalgiaFilter protection the show has garnered in North America, it's probably {{affectionate|Parody}} more than anything).
** "I knew I should have stayed home today!"
** In Israel, the show was just called ‘The Magic Bus’ (because school buses are not as ubiquitous there). Unfortunately, ‘magic’ (or, more accurately, ‘acts of magic’) sounds a lot like ‘drugs’ in Hebrew (קסמים ''ksamím'' vs. סמים ''samím'', respectively). Cue many jabs from kids who’ve outgrown the series about the bus adventures being a case of MushroomSamba.
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aahPUCyS5Qo Girl that's a booty hole.]]"
* NightmareFuel: While on Pluto, Arnold takes his helmet off and [[SpaceIsCold his head freezes]].
* PeripheryDemographic: The series has gained a large amount of older fans, many of whom grew up with it.
** It helps that both the facts (for the most part) are still relevant and the characters are interesting.
** Older fans have been known to revisit the show because of how much they forgot that they had learned in elementary.
* TheScrappy:
** Janet. To be fair though, this was probably intentional.
** Tim, for being TheGenericGuy. While he's not ''hated'', he pretty much has zero fans.
* {{Squick}}: Some of the Fantastic Voyage moments.
** Most notably the episode where the kids go inside Janet's nose.
** Or when the class was inside Arnold's large intestine, getting up close and personal with piles of poop.
** Or when the class [[AccidentalInnuendo got laid]] by a chicken.
* TheWoobie:
** Everyone has their moments, but Arnold probably has the most.
** Keesha gets special mention, during her TenMinuteRetirement in "Gets Ants in its Pants".
