* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''Film/{{The Thing|1982}}''. The story is about characters isolated in the snow, with heavy shared themes of paranoia and a bleak tone. Both feature Creator/KurtRussell as the lead and a soundtrack by Music/EnnioMorricone. Three songs from ''The Thing''[='s=] soundtrack even show up in ''The Hateful Eight'' (two unused in the film but featured on the soundtrack, and one used when they find the site of the UFO). [[spoiler:Both films also end with the two main characters, one black and one white, calmly waiting to die.]]
** Also to Tarantino's first film, ''Film/ReservoirDogs''. Both films are a mystery about unsavory characters trapped in a building.

This is intentional, not an audience reaction

* FetishRetardant: Daisy tries winking and licking her lips at Warren. Unfortunately, the effect is ruined by her blood-covered face due to her nose having just gotten elbowed ''hard''.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Warren's entire monologue to Smithers [[spoiler: regarding the fate of his son]]. If it had been told normally, it'd have been absolutely disgusting, but Sam Jackson's over-the-top, hamtastic delivery, euphemisms, and magnificent EvilLaugh (complete with a Wrestling/RicFlair worthy "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the end) make it play jump rope with the line.

Gonna delete for now per this query.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Some people will just look at the title and say "[[EightDeadlyWords I Don't Care What Happens To These People]]."

* TooBleakStoppedCaring: There are very few likable characters among the main cast, if any, with O.B. Jackson being a possible exception. Ruth repeatedly beats an unarmed woman, Warren [[spoiler:killed and possibly raped General Smithers' son, in addition to [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking lying about his Lincoln letter]]]], Mannix, Smithers, and Daisy Domergue are all incredibly racist and bitter, and [[spoiler:the rest end up being murderous outlaws working for Jody Domergue's gang]]. However, this is somewhat alleviated by the fact that [[spoiler:Mannix gets better, as he was [[CassandraTruth telling the truth all along about being a sheriff]], and if you subscribe to the AlternativeCharacterInterpretation that Warren lied about raping Smithers' son to goad him into drawing and/or the Lincoln letter being genuine, then he gets better too. And if all else fails, you can just take some comfort in the fact that all of them are either dead or close to it in the end, with Warren having no chance of living and Mannix having tough odds as well]].

Just because a movie is successful financially doesn't mean people liked it. Criticial Dissonance is a thing but it's also one of his least well reviewed movies.

The movies was successful, making 156 million on a budget of between 44-62 million and its review scores are good, so none of the two apply

** Another one dependent on whether or not you believe Warren; was Minnie actually prejudiced against Mexicans? It's something he claims about her to Bob, yet its unsupported by the flashback when she has no objections with Bob coming in with the others and doesn't say anything even when he speaks within earshot of her (with his Spanish accent). [[spoiler:Perhaps Warren claiming this about Minnie is a bluff against Bob, who, if he really did work for Minnie, would know it wasn't true. But since Bob never knew Minnie, he can't refute this claim, proving he's lying.]]
