However, this is somewhat alleviated by the fact that [[spoiler:Mannix gets better, as he was [[CassandraTruth telling the truth all along about being a sheriff]], and if you subscribe to the AlternativeCharacterInterpretation that Warren lied about raping Smithers' son to goad him into drawing and/or the Lincoln letter being genuine, then he gets better too. Just because a movie is successful financially doesn't mean people liked it. Criticial Dissonance is a thing but it's also one of his least well reviewed movies.
