YMMV / The Brides of Dracula

Go To

  • Les Yay: Vamped-out Gina slowly stalks Marianne, asking her for a kiss.
    • Of course by kiss, she means "bite". She is a monster now after all.
    • She also addresses Marianne as "my love."
  • Rooting for the Empire: Considering how slow on the uptake Marianne is through the film and how utterly close she gets to being bitten, many actually wouldn't have minded if the Baron had managed to turn her.
  • Special Effects Failure: Any scene featuring the vampire bats. As stated in trivia, they had some realistic looking bat props for the scenes but they were lost at some point, so the crew had to make due with some cheap looking ones.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Well plot point. The film just expects us to believe that the vampiric Gina and Village Girl stayed within the windmill as it burned down. Granted yeah they're newly turned and subservient to the Baron. But even they wouldn't be that dumb to stay within a burning building. What's more since we never find out their fate, that could've been a great lead in to the next Dracula sequel.
    • For a story set in a girls' boarding school, that was ripe for potential to have more female vampires and live up to the title. The first few posters of the movie seemed to indicate that was going to be the case with Dracula having invaded the school and started turning girls. Why this still couldn't have happened with the Baron is anyone's guess, the setup where he escapes the manor and terrorizes the village was still there. But he barely makes headway into attacking the school before Van Helsing stops him.
    • After the Baroness is turned into a vampire she seems to retain her humanity and is horrified by what she's become. This could have led to exploring whether vampirism inevitably leads to someone turning evil or if it's a matter of the person. Unfortunately Van Helsing declares the only way to deal with vampires is to kill them and stakes her.
