- Strangled by the Red String: Esme turns out to be attracted to Jack to an extent that surprises even him, and not less the reader given that they have basically zero meaningful interaction up to the moment. It might be simply that Esme is extremely into the kind of awkward hanger-on Jack is, but it still feels extremely perfunctory.
