• Ensemble Dark Horse:
  • Heatstroke from the reboot got fan attention for his goofy design, which stands out from the cast because of his beady eyes and much skinnier build.
  • Anyway, from the same pack. They come off as just plain endearing despite (or maybe because of) the fact that all they do is lay in one spot all day depressed and generally act like The Eeyore.
  • Hearsay is also popular for being a vain Pretty Boy type.
• Evil Is Cool: A lot of people had this reaction to the Queen of Thorns, a hyena matriarch that wears a thorn collar and commands a large clan of hyenas. This also applied to the Big Bad Rapier and her son Blade in the original version, who were popular for their distinct designs and charisma.
• Viewer Gender Confusion:
  • Swiftkill, Bloodspill and Cricket are all female, but look androgynous enough that some readers assume they're male, especially Bloodspill.
  • Anyway's physical sex hasn't been revealed, but Word of God is they don't identify as either.
  • Hearsay gets this as well because he looks very feminine.
  • The first two Stoneclaws shown are female, but most of the fandom thought they were male when they were first shown because they are built bulky in a appropriately realistic manner for Smilodons.
• What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?:
  • Both comics resemble an family-friendly animated film, but quickly reveal they are not intended for kids at all:
    • In the old comic, blood is shown at least twice, and characters swear. Swiftkill also kills two puppies accidentally.
    • The opening of the reboot begins with Swiftkill's mother laying in a pool of blood gasping, with her neck slashed open. Swiftkill is then forced to watch a hyena eat her mother (that last bit is offscreen, but still.)
