YMMV / Supernatural S 03 E 01 The Magnificent Seven

  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Tamara, a kindly Action Girl who knows Bobby and is sympathetic towards the boys despite her husband's antipathy towards them. She has a tragic backstory — having lost her daughter to a monster that invaded her home, and then losing her beloved husband in a horrific fashion that makes her snap, leaving her withdrawn and angry. She has connections to hoodoo practitioners and gives Sam the name of one to help him out with Dean's deal. And because she is black, she would add to the few and desperately needed heroic people of color in Supernatural. Sounds like Tamara could make for an interesting and sympathetic character, right? And yet she departs the series forever at the end of the episode after she and Bobby warn each other to be careful.
    • The Seven Deadly Sins are introduced as actual demons, the embodiment of sins, a gang of demons working closely together and apparently very close to each other, possessing unique powers and utilizing them to nightmarish effect. Half of them are dead and the other half exorcised indefinitely by the end of the episode when they could have easily been made into recurring villains so that their potential as antagonists could be explored more thoroughly — at least as a group made up of Lilith's high-tier minions. Fans on the Internet were lamenting how the Sins were taken out much too quickly and with too little fanfare, making them question why the Sins were introduced at all since the writers didn't really bother to do anything with them.
