YMMV / Supergirl (2015) S3E9 "Reign"

Go To

  • Continuity Lock-Out: Apparently the episode begins the morning after "Wake Up," making it hard to believe that Kara and Alex were able to attend Barry and Iris' wedding and take part in the Crisis on Earth-X. Then again time has been proven to work differently between parallel Earths, as the day Barry spent on Earth-38 amounted to less than a second on Earth-1.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Lena telling Kara and Sam that there is no chemistry between her and James despite them saying otherwise. Lena and James get together later in the episode and begin a relationship that was very unpopular with fans and critics. One of the biggest complaints? The totally lack of onscreen chemistry between the two characters.
  • Narm:
    • The way the episode makes a big show of keeping Reign's identity a secret, showing most of her actions from a first-person viewpoint and obscuring her face with close-up shots of the mask during the third-person shots. These are the kind of techniques typically used to build mystery around who the antagonist is, but previous episodes have outright told the audience that Samantha is Reign.
    • Lena telling Kara and Sam there is no chemistry between her and James is meant to be funny as viewers are supposed to see an obvious romantic connection between the two. Sadly, there is a totally lack of any onscreen chemistry so the line comes across as Lena being deadly serious.
  • Special Effects Failure: Granted, it's expensive and wasteful to tear up sidewalks on location to create craters when super-people get slammed into the ground. Unfortunately, though, the cheaper work-around (used more than once here) of piling up broken concrete in a crater-like shape around where the crater should be neglects to account for the hole that should be in the middle of said crater.
