  • Broken Base: The playthrough with Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc has garnered a large amount of controversy due to Jake's responses in the Class Trials being perceived as either 'needlessly harsh' or 'hypocritical and biased', which had caused some of his fans to grow uncomfortable with watching his playthrough of the game.
    • One example is his apparent denial in accepting Sayaka's role in betraying Makoto and kick-starting the entire plot by planning to commit murder and pin the crime on Makoto in order to escape, which backfires as she is then killed by the one who she had been planning to murder, while condemning Leon for the killing of Sayaka for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and takes glee in his execution.
    • His response to the next trial with the revelations of the true culprit had only garnered more controversy due to his condemning Mondo for the killing of Chihiro in a blind fit of rage, which he is shown to be remorseful for and willingly gives himself up once exposed, his condemning Kiyotaka's for being in denial over Mondo's crime (which is also hypocritical considering Jake himself denies Sayaka's intention to frame Makoto for a murder she was going to commit), despite Mondo being the first friend he ever had (albeit he doesn't know this), while downplaying Byakuya's role in desecrating Chihiro's corpse and creating false leads in order to mislead everyone in the trial for his own amusement.
    • Then the next trial, he reacts with only disappointment towards Celeste, who has the most unjustified murder in the eyes of many, quite a number of whom believe that she's deserving of the scathing anger he expressed towards Leon and Mondo, for seemingly no real reason other than favoritism, to the point of saying that it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't been put in that situation, which many felt was unfair considering the fact that the other murders also wouldn't have happened had they not been put in that situation, but he brushed that off in their trials.
    • A minor war has started in the comments section between those who condemn his opinions and say he's being a jerk, and those who claim Jake has a right to his own opinions and pointing out that he hasn't yet found out a lot about the characters through conversations, and some just wanted to understand why he acted the way he did and why he thought the way he did, not necessarily being on one side or the other, even possibly being in both a bit. Another argument against Jake's scathing hatred of the killers is that, earlier in the series, he was constantly talking about figuring out how to kill someone and who to kill so he can come off as a bit hypocritical.
    • After the massive six-month hiatus after Chapter 4 (caused by Jake moving back to Japan) the ire seems to have died down a bit. After returning, Jake has acknowledged that Sayaka was setting Makoto up and that he was wrong to defend her for so long, that Celeste had a very unjustified motive for murder, and that his bloodthirstiness in regards to both plotting murder and showing glee at the executions was probably out of line—while still acknowledging that he simply enjoys Sayaka and Celeste's characters. Overall, it's like Jake himself was Rescued from the Scrappy Heap.
  • Fan Nickname: Several people in the comments have taken to calling him Munakata during his Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc playthrough, due to his generally harsh reception towards the killers.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During the later parts of his Let's Play of Resident Evil 4, he came across enemies with stun batons and gushed about how much he would want one. Then came along his Let's Play of Resident Evil 5 with ProtonJon, where one was available to buy.
  • Ho Yay: Plenty, mostly between him and JoshJepson. One little exchange from their Rayman Origins-LP:
Josh: I like that we can- fuck, don't jump.
Jake: "I like that we can fuck." I like that too, honestly.
Josh: We as a human race, not me and you.
    Jake: Oh.
Josh: "Oh?" Okay, I didn't realize you were going to be so disappointed.
Jake: Well, you should have thought of that before you smashed all my hopes and dreams.
  • Never Live It Down:
    • Even before his now-infamous raging during the Battletoads race, his meltdown at the Auction House in Final Fantasy VI was something people liked to remind him of.
    • In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, defending Sayaka for betraying him and praising Leon's execution cast a shadow over the rest of the LP for a good long while.
