YMMV / Studio Trigger

  • Broken Base: Many of the studio's works borrow from western cartoons in structure or in design, making westerners very invested in the studio. Some of Trigger's fans are fine with this, seeing it as Trigger's way to stand out from other studios, but others think that its middling success in its native country is why it needs to try appealing more to its Japanese audiences as well.
  • Friendly Fandoms: There's a very good chance that a fan of Trigger productions has also seen a Gainax anime, especially if it's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The studio is incredibly popular outside of its native Japan, where it has only modest numbers, especially in the west. English-speaking imageboards tend to treat the studio as the saviour of anime and anything they produce becomes an instant cult classic. It can best be seen in their work Little Witch Academia, where in Japan the studio had to cancel a fan meet and greet because not enough tickets sold, while its Kickstarter for a second episode made well over its goal and earned over half a million dollars.
  • Heartwarming Moments: After the reveal of Trigger-chan's true identity, any official art showing her with merchandise of Nova can become this.
  • Memetic Badass: At least one character from each of their shows will be referred to as "The Savior of Anime". Inferno Cop remains the reigning king of this title, though.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Based Trigger" is a popular nickname for the studio on various imageboards and other anime communities on the internet.
