YMMV / Stephen Fry

  • Internet Backdraft: 2016 has not been his year. At the BAFTAS Stephen made a casual joke about an award winner's choice of wardrobe that triggered some overly-sensitive people who agitated him to the point where he quit Twitter in a huff (they are actually good friends and she wasn't offended at all). Things snowballed when he made some insensitive comments about how adults who were sexually abused as children need to grow up instead of wallowing in self-pity. Stephen later apologized for the last remark upon being told how his comments made him look like a rape apologist, baring in mind that when he does make controversial remarks, he rarely if ever apologises.
  • One of Us: Revealed he loved Star Trek on an episode of QI, made references to Worf, imitated Captain Picard and talked about Vulcan chess with one of the other guests. He even referred to himself as a Trekkie.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Appeared on an episode of University Challenge in 1980.
  • What Could Have Been: Was nearly born in America, as his father was offered a position at Princeton but turned it down. Considering that Hugh Laurie was eventually cast in a series set in Princeton, this is...quite interesting.
  • The Woobie: When he speaks about his experiences with bipolar disorder.
