YMMV / Star Trek: The Next Generation S1 E11 "The Big Goodbye"

• Franchise Original Sin: This was the first "holodeck malfunction" story, and as such established many plot elements — such as the holodeck story being largely divorced from what's going on in the outside world, the threat being the result of alien interference that leads to a Failsafe Failure, the holograms becoming pseudo-sentient, and the fact that they can't just shut down the holodeck because of vaguely-explained technobabble — that such stories would replicate right up until the final years of Star Trek: Voyager. This story was able to get away with these tropes mostly just because it was the first story of its type.
• Narm Charm: As with much of Season 1, Patrick Stewart is able to deliver the absolutely dreadful Jarada greeting with complete conviction and thus makes it totally awesome.
