These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
Special Effects Failure: It's a BBC science-fiction drama made in the eighties, what did you expect? Going for scientific accuracy probably just made things worse, not least because it limited the production team's ability to reuse sets and props from Dr Who or Blake's 7. The interior shots didn't look that bad for their day, and they managed to hide the wires for simulating zero-gravity most of the time, but the exteriors are all very obvious matte paintings that looked like they were cribbed from a children's book on space travel. The blue-screen effects haven't aged all that well either, though they were probably alright for their day.
