YMMV: Spyro: Year of the Dragon
  • Breather Boss: Scorch. While the developers were smart enough to make him fairly challenging because he's intended to be a Climax Boss, he comes after Spike and the Twin Dragons. The next Sparx boss you can fight, the Giant Stingray, is That One Boss for Sparx, and after THAT is the Final Boss... out of all of them, once you get all of these bosses' patterns down, Scorch is the easiest.
  • Catharsis Factor: One of the first things you can do post-game is chase down Moneybags and kick the ever loving crap out of him in order to get back the gems you've spent over the course of the game.
  • Complete Monster: The Sorceress's first act has her Kick the Dog by stealing every unborn dragon. While her Dragon Bianca claims she is a Well-Intentioned Extremist, the Sorceress chastises her for thinking this. She states that she wants to kill three hundred infant dragons for their wings, which she will use for a spell to make her live forever. When the horrified Bianca asks why she has to kill them, she replies that she doesn't; she just doesn't want them squirming around when she cuts off their wings. This one line prompts Bianca to pull an immediate Heel-Face Turn.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Stewart Copeland's score... as always.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: If you turn down freeing Agent 9, Moneybags asks if Spyro is jealous that no one has made an action figure of him.
  • That One Boss: Pretty much all of them qualify, but Spike takes the cake. He's similar to Ripto, attacking with energy balls that are ridiculously hard to dodge consistently and, in the second and third phases, can take the powerups for himself. In addition, the first phase requires incredible precision and speed to the point where you will get hit, and the latter two phases, while easier, are still a challenge.
  • That One Level: The Sheila bonus world in Spooky Swamp where you have to clear the way for a couple of blind fireflies carrying a bomb, and you have to start over should they crash into anything. The first one is easy enough as he follows the road, the second one however moves in a completely random course, pretty much guaranteeing you'll have to retry a dozen times before getting it.
    • Likewise with another Sheila bonus world in Seashell Shore, where you have to clear out the sand boxes and guns surrounding a building while dodging foes before time runs out. Prepare yourself for clearing out the last gun or box exactly one second too late.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?: In Evening Lake, there is a whale swimming in the deeper regions of the lake. If you swim up to its mouth, the whale will eat you, revealing a dragon egg inside its stomach. The dragon inside the egg is called "Jonah." On the other hand, a lot of these dragons have joke names.
