  • John vs. Naesala. Especially when John kicks his ass.
  • John gets another one in when he has to form a battle plan after something goes against the stations of the canon, especially when his plan succeeds with very few casualties.

• Crowning Moment of Funny: Oh, dear, where to begin?
  • John's cross-dressing stint is milked for all of its humor. Shinon hits on him thinking he's a girl and Haar walks in on an Almost Kiss with John and Jill while John is still crossdressing and pretending to be Jill's sister. And that's among other things.
    • And the entire cross-dressing stint gets even more Hilarious in Hindsight when it's revealed that there is an ACTUAL Sophia Domivere who is not John in drag.
  • John's training to drill Magic A is Magic A below.
  • John's interrupted 300 reference.
  • "Hush! I'm LARPing!"
  • Ilyana going berserk after someone burns the food tent, for how over the top her reaction is.
  • "For your information, there were COUNTLESS innocents on board the Death Star!"
• Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: The author's note for chapter 76 may very well qualify.
  • Chapter 33 also deserves a special mention.
• Draco in Leather Pants: Petrine's portrayal is a rare subversion in that somehow, Foxwolf Jackson turned Petrine into one of the most likeable characters in the entire fic while keeping her in character. Her death also came as something of a Player Punch and a Tear Jerker to a lot of readers.
• Ron the Death Eater: Shinon is also an intresting subversion in that he's still kept in character but made to be an incredibly despicable bastard.
  • Although it's not exactly much of a jump...
  • Chapter 73 takes this and pretty much runs with it, with him mercilessly mocking John's crossdressing incident, almost killing Rolf, and perhaps worst of all, insulting Petrine right to John's face. Your Mileage May Vary on whether or not his death at the end of this chapter subverts this or gives it a satisfying climax.
  • The Black Knight, as well, is depicted as a psychotic killer with a hatred for Greil's family. To really make the point, the author has him quote Sephiroth, of all people. His motivations in canon were more complex than that.
• Shocking Swerve: Jay's identity. It's Jill.
• Tear Jerker: Any of the deaths of the canon characters. In terms of tear jerkiness, however, Petrine's death takes the cake.
