YMMV / Sonichu

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • The Sonichu balls often inadvertently lent themselves to testicle references. "My two balls!" indeed.
    • In the sixth issue, the characters hear an explosion. In response, Chris-Chan replies: "Somethings's happening downstairs! Sonichu, Magi-Chan, come with me!" The way the comic is drawn, it looks as though Chris-Chan's gnads are exploding.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Issue 8, the most sexually explicit issue, is also one of the most notorious.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
  • Designated Hero: It's really hard to get behind any of the heroes, as they spend most of their time screwing and are quite prone to Disproportionate Retribution.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Many side characters such as Yawning Squirtle, Boulder Dropping Whale, Kel, Metal Sonichu and Bill the Scientist have become favorites among the fanbase.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: At the end of Sonichu #10, Chris and her allies stand triumphantly over their enemies and justice has been served to Simonla's murderers, but to do so, they've committed countless crimes, maimed or murdered hundreds in the process, engaged in a show trial, engaged in some of the most brutal atrocities in the name of revenge, and otherwise became far worse monsters than their enemies.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: The author is known to Retcon large amounts of the series. It's up to individual followers of the comic whether any (and which) of them caught on or not.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Sonichu mentioned that he had a dream of seeing his creator with long hair in the mirror in one issue. Needless to say, this ended up coming true, as the creator later came out as a transgender woman.
    • In Episode 21, Chris says that the "gene-like molecule" that makes a person gay was discovered in June 2015, and scientists developed a gay vaccine with the help of a time-traveling Chris. In June 2015 in real life, a US Supreme Court ruling legalized same-sex marriage.
    • Pokémon Sun and Moon would introduce Togedemaru, an official "Electric Hedgehog Pokémon".
    • In the Sonichu sub-episodes (a series of Life Embellished stories about Chris' life), true love is supposedly illegal in Virginia because "Virginia is for virgins". In 2013, Virginia Republican gubernational candidate Ken Cuccinelli's platform included making oral and anal sex illegal.
  • Inferred Holocaust: We are told that the Jerkops swell their numbers using a Hypno Ray hypnotic ray gun that only affects the mentally impaired. Which means that when the heroes do battle with them, they're actually pummeling innocent people brainwashed against their will. This wasn't addressed until issue 9, and then, such addressing was disregarded until issue 10.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • While she canonically has grey hair and a viking helmet, earlier artwork of Mary Lee Walsh drew just the helmet, making her look like a bob-cut blonde with devil horns. Practically every piece of unofficial art portrays her as such as a result.
    • The front cover of Sonichu #0, where Chris tells Sonichu to go "out and zap to the extreme", has ended up becoming perhaps the most frequently parodied image from the entire comic. The most popular form of parody is to substitute Chris and Sonichu with other characters.
  • Narm: The biggest source of entertainment in Sonichu.
  • Narm Charm: Barely qualifies. Some parts contain enough Rouge Angles of Satin typos and awful dialogue to evoke the awesomeness that is Half-Life: Full Life Consequences, but not enough to really make the comic enjoyable on its own.
  • Parody Displacement: Many people didn't realize that the bizarre Cutaway Gag with Christine's fat(ter) lookalike "Sammy" in Issue #7 is a parody of Filmation's Ghostbusters' Transformation Sequence.
  • The Scrappy: Sonichu and Rosechu's kids. The children are widely hated by everybody. Even more so than the other characters. This is saying a lot. They may or may not show traits of Creator's Pet as well.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Every single couple.
    • Punchy is hinted to have a crush on Angelica. Then he ends up with Layla Flaaffy.
    • Bubbles is with Blake. They hide their relationship for no clear reason.
    • When Reldnahc is about to be cured of his homosexuality, there is talk of him getting back together with Kel. There is no mention of this in earlier chapters.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Sean's drug induced rant.
  • Sweetness Aversion: The Sonees and Roseys, Sonichu's and Rosechu's children especially. In fact, their "cuteness" is so annoying that they're probably the most hated characters.
  • Tear Jerker: Episode 12.5 “One Lucky Dog”, Chandler’s tribute to her deceased pet.
  • Unfortunate Character Design: Lovely Weather looks like a man.
  • Wangst: Chris-Chan when lamenting on how she can’t get a girl. Reginald Sneasel as well, being a stand-in for her when she was trapped in the Time Void.
