YMMV / Sega Forums

  • Acceptable Targets: Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic X, Game Informer, Call of Duty, Ken Penders, and fanboys in general.
    • Increasingly, Sonic Adventure 2 and Adventure-era fanboys, to the point that it's uncool not to hate them.
  • Big Lipped Alligator Moment: The 3D Glasses incident, where a bunch of members photoshopped 3D glasses onto their avatars. To this day, nobody knows why it happened or who started it.
  • Broken Base: These forums are the primary hub for the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom, one of the most infamously fractured bases in all of pop culture.
    • Sonic Adventure and Sonic Boom are the primary culprits. Both brought about majors changes to the franchise that left the fans unable to agree whether they're wonderful or terrible.
  • Confirmation Bias: Let's just say that quite a few regular members are guilty of this and leave it there.
  • Crack Pairing: Any two members who spend a lot of time talking to each other will be shipped together. No exceptions.
    • Then there's the shipping war, it can get quite crazy to say the least.
  • 8.8: There are quite a few members who still can't get over the fact that the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed received better reviews than the 360/PS3 version. Some even point to it as proof that professional critics have no business reviewing Sonic games.
  • Fandom Berserk Button: You can claim that Sonic the Hedgehog has jumped the shark all you want, but don't you dare suggest that it was never good to begin with.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: There are a considerable amount of members who only joined the forums to talk about one particular aspect of the Sonic franchise, usually a character they have a particular affinity for.
  • Memetic Mutation: Oh so many... Roger the Porcupine, Boost to Win, The Barrel, the list goes on.
    • A more complete list can be found Here
  • Sacred Cow: Saying nasty things about the Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games (1-3 and Knuckles, at least) is a good way to prevent anyone on these forums from taking you seriously.
  • “Stop Having Fun” Guys: The forum staff has often been accused of this, especially after they banned general discussion threads. While it's easy to sympathize with the crowd, there was a good reason those threads were banned.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: Sega's constant ReTooling of Sonic the Hedgehog produces this reaction quite often. You can't go one day without seeing a thread about how the new direction sucks and why can't Sega just get it right already.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: As with any forum, guys don't always use guy avatars, and girls don't always use girl avatars. And then there's the people that don't tell their gender and do basically anything to confuse you on it.
    • Gri, in particular, was hit with a lot of this. When it finally came out that he was, well, he, it caused quite a stir.
