YMMV / Sandra Bullock

  • Actor Allusion: Invoked. It was Sandra's idea to name her character's dog 'Jack' in The Lake House, after Keanu Reeves's character in Speed.
  • The Cast Show Off: Performed the song "Heaven Knocking on My Door" in That Thing You Call Love, which she also wrote.
  • Dawson Casting: In-universe example in Miss Congeniality where she says she's over 30 and Miss USA contestants have to be aged 18-27.
  • Doing It for the Art:
    • She took a pay cut to make The Blind Side because she knew how hard John Lee Hancock was working on it.
    • She actually learned how to drive a bus for Speed and passed her test on the first try.
  • Enforced Method Acting: She and Nicole Kidman really did get drunk during Practical Magic's scene with the aunts.
  • Hollywood Homely: She's found herself cast as the plain or less glamorous girl in many movies. Miss Congeniality is actually a subversion - as Gracie gets picked as the Undercover Model precisely because she looks good in a swimsuit.
  • Money, Dear Boy:
    • She was pretty up front about saying this is the reason she did 28 Days. So much so that the interviewer thought she was kidding, only for her to tell him stone-seriously she was telling the truth.
    • She only agreed to do the Speed sequel in exchange for Fox endorsing her movie Hope Floats.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Sandra provides the speaking voice for Miriam in The Prince of Egypt. Sally Dworsky sings for her.
  • Old Shame:
    • Google Fire on the Amazon and see what pops up (but first make sure you're not at work).
    • She isn't particularly proud of Speed 2: Cruise Control either.
    • Or Miss Congeniality 2: Armed And Fabulous.
    • And as mentioned in the description, her reaction to All About Steve getting her a Razzie was to come to the ceremony and happily admit it was terrible. Especially notable since she produced it.
  • She Also Did: She co-wrote and directed a short film called Making Sandwiches.
  • Star-Making Role: Speed put her on the map.
  • Throw It In!: In Speed, she improvised the scene where Annie takes gum out of her mouth and puts it on her seat as an excuse to move away from the obnoxious Stephens.
  • Typecasting:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • She was strongly considered for the role of Lois Lane in a "potential Superman relaunch". It went to Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns and Amy Adams in Man of Steel.
    • Among the actresses she has replaced - Nancy McKeon in Working Girl, Lori Petty in Demolition Man, Demi Moore in While You Were Sleeping and Julia Roberts for The Blind Side.
    • She was nearly dropped from Speed because Fox were convinced that Keanu Reeves didn't have enough drawing power, and wanted a big name actress to star alongside him. Jan de Bont refused and it became Sandra's breakout role.
