YMMV / Ruby Quest

• Ensemble Dark Hound: There's a lot of fanart of Daisy. ...Mostly pornographic.
• Growing the Beard: /tg/ treated it as a regular Escape the Room adventure type thread. This included a lot of the usual 4chan type commands like "I think this means it's time for a good schlicking!" And then they realize that it was a Cosmic Horror Story. That's when the entire board treated it as serious and started giving serious commands.
• I Knew It!: Multiple people in this thread guessed a lot of twists correctly. One guy in particular guessed that Ruby and Tom were in a lab (although he thought it was for treatment of the zombie-making disease rather than blindness), the zombies were caused by a disease/infection (although this wasn't quite the case in the end), and that both Tom and Ruby were infected.
• Magnificent Bastard: The creepy, perpetually-grinning fox named Red is one of the few survivors in the Metal Glen when Ruby and Tom awake and an eccentric ally to them before he's later found dead. As logs show, Red was actually the chief diagnostician of the Metal Glen who offered the "cure" for blindness to begin with — before realizing before anyone else it had horrible, mutative effects on the subjects and even the staff. With all his attempts to escape the cure failing and realizing the entire Metal Glen has fallen victim to the whims of a hideous pagan god, Red, even driven to insanity, retains enough cleverness that he orchestrates a way to kill himself without the cure bringing him back, utterly destroying his body and cheating the eldritch god out of his body — all while Ruby and Tom never suspect a thing.
• Memetic Molester: Filbert. Largely because he looks like Pedobear. Also, "NotWeaver's" posts probably have a lot to do with it, as well.
  • Also, the Dummy.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • "HUG TOM" (Ruby hugged Tom in an early scene. The players decided they liked it, and started clamoring to hug Tom every other scene)
  • "READ THE NOTE" (There's a lot of notes in Ruby Quest with information about the setting and backstory).
  • GIRLISH FIGURE (Ruby is described as not being very strong because of this.)
  • MANLY PHYSIQUE (In contrast to Ruby, Tom is very strong. His MANLY PHYSIQUE has been a great help through the game in bashing things open and doing things they weren't supposed to do.)
  • Redroll (An image that changes Red's last message into the first two lines of "Never Gonna Give You Up')
  • Mr. Water Cooler is unimpressed. (There's a water cooler in one room. The way its taps are drawn makes it look like the cooler has a vexed expression. 'Mr. Water Cooler' quickly caught on among the players as a reaction image of sorts.)
  • Memetic Badass: Ace. Though, compared to his current sate-of-being, it's not exaggerated that much.
• Moral Event Horizon: Filbert was already far from sympathetic, but he crosses this line when it is revealed that he euthanized one of his patients just so that he could see what would happen when she came Back from the Dead.
  • Worse still, she didn't come back. (Or fortunately, depending on your perspective.)
• Squick:
  • Ruby is occasionally instructed to put weird and/or disgusting things in her mouth. She soon learns that she shouldn't always trust the 4chan community.
  • All the random, dismembered body-parts found lying about the facility.
    • How much Ruby/Tom are seen messing around with them!
• The Woobie: Tom, while he was deathly ill and trapped in Red's cell; Stitches, due to his overall volatile Butt-Monkey status; and Jay, who was (almost) left to suffer for who knows how long in the facility's water filtration unit in Cold Storage.
