* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: The show had a video game in 1993 for the {{UsefulNotes/SNES}}. Many fans stated that the game had repetitive gameplay, annoying music/sounds, there were more girls than boys (a 6:2 ratio) when you had to choose a character, and the fact that the Aggro Crag, the final level, was a glorified Basic Training level... basically, the game sucked. Oh, and there was no Mike O'Malley, but there was Mo.

* ValuesDissonance: One contestant (detailed in [[http://www.topshelfcomix.com/ts2.0/guts/ this webcomic]]) said the show made a big spectacle about the time he wore a dress to school. The show presented it as "rebellious" in 1992, but today this depiction would be highly transphobic and offensive to crossdressers.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: A former contestant[[note]]Sean Robinson[[/note]] did [[http://www.topshelfcomix.com/ts2.0/guts/ a webcomic]] about his experiences on the show in its first season, and how it affected him afterwards. The [[KidsAreCruel results]] weren't pretty [[note]]partially because of how the show handled his on stage "persona", mainly claiming he wore a dress to school as part of his rebel persona while also putting him into a competition ''with'' two girls[[/note]], and [[MyGreatestFailure haunted him for the rest of his life]].

What An Idiot entry is not a proper example. Deleting from YMMV page regardless.

* WhatAnIdiot: The sheer number of players crossing over to their opponents' boundaries, ''even when the rules blatantly stated that it was forbidden'', was mind-boggling. Then again, considering it probably takes a good amount of concentration to focus on what you're doing yourself in physical challenges like these, they could forget where the boundaries are.

* WhatAnIdiot: UnintentionalPeriodPiece: ''Good lord'', pretty much everyone who appeared on this show, from the contestants to the refs to the audience makes the show a time capsule for 90s fashion. Bright, primary, contrasting colors, neon green and pink shorts and tank tops, NinetiesHair abound... The sheer number of players crossing over to their opponents' boundaries, ''even when list goes on and on. This isn't even getting into the rules blatantly stated that it was forbidden'', was mind-boggling. Then again, considering it probably takes a good amount of concentration to focus on what you're doing yourself in physical challenges like these, they show's aesthetics either. The TotallyRadical "extreme" theme, the "kaleidoscope" scene transitions, the nicknames the contestants are given... One could forget where nickname this show "TheNineties: Kids Sports Edition" and not much would change. This even extends to some events featured on the boundaries are.show, with a few [[ProductPlacement using "sports" toys at the time]] like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_shoes Moon Shoes]].

Those kids were 12-13. To call them "little" just because they're disabled is demoralizing and patronizing.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: The Special Olympics episode of ''Global GUTS'' where two little girls from the U.S. and a little boy from Mexico had competed. The little boy won, but the special appearance by [[Film/ETTheExtraTerrestrial E.T.]] let them know that they were all winners.

** ''Global GUTS'' gets its fair share of criticism too. Besides the aforementioned rules changes, the contestants themselves often came off as unlikable.

** ''Global GUTS'' gets its fair share of criticism too. Besides the aforementioned rules changes, the contestants themselves were given less opportunities to showcase their personalities (especially the non-English speaking contestants whose Spill Your Guts segments were translated by a voiceover) and it often came made them come off as standoffish and unlikable.
