These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
Barely Alive Troll, who should have died by the end of the scene, lived because some of the readers decided it would be more entertaining to have him escape and repeatedly try to draw him back into the plot. This is a minor example.
Nepeta herself is one of the minor, yet popular, characters in the original work. This adventure came about in the first place because of a comment by Homestuck's author about how minor her role was.
Fetish Fuel: Horns are a secondary sexual characteristic in troll culture. Nepeta receives a horn enhancement popup early on and multiple characters comment on Scoria's nice horns.
Nezumi's many anime-inspired personality profiles.
Jumping the Shark: Averted; you know how people say that they wish a story had just ended at the exact point where it drastically changed from its original mission and intent? This is exactly what Nepetaquest 2011 did.
Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Vriska is rather more likeable here, mostly because, while still mean-spirited, she hasn't become evil yet. It helps that she doesn't hog the spotlight in everything, too.
Saved by the Fans: The whole reason that Zander and Scoria made it out of the second Colony Raiders match alive.
Barely Alive Troll is a sillier example.
Villain Sue: Nezumi has every non-aspect-related special ability that appears in the original comic, which puts her right up with the Condesce when comparing to canon characters. She evaded Sue status with her character flaws and the author's early assertion that she wasn't going to take over the story... but soon before the fancomic abruptly ended, the author had made some announcements that the story would be renamed "Alterniaquest" and Nepeta would no longer be the main character, and after the end, the What Could Have Been notes showed the story revolving around Nezumi and Scoria.
