YMMV / Natsuyuki Rendezvous

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The ending song by Aimer, "Anata ni Deawanakereba ~Natsuyuki Fuyuhana~".
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Atsushi asks Hazuki's grandson to call him grandfather, and after answering "but my grandfather is dead!", He smiles to the sky with a satisfied smile. This should symbolize that he "conceived" his daughter when he was in Hazuki's body? But after all, she looks very much like her official father, both in appearance and in personality. This strange moment never gets an explanation.
  • Broken Base: Hazuki fans were dissatisfied with the way the work distributed time between him and Shimao, despite the fact that this Official Couple was clear from the very beginning. In their opinion, this led not only to the excessive emphasis of the series on one corner of the triangle, but also turned the result of the manga into a forced and ill-founded one. On the other hand, other people praised the author for the chosen path of development, praising him for the quality use of Star-Crossed Lovers in the storyline.
  • Die for Our Ship:
    • Literally for everyone. If one is to follow the trajectory of the show from episode 5, it can be assumed that most Hazuki shippers would prefer Shimao to return to his ghost form. On the other hand, Shimao supporters would be fine with him completely taking over with Hazuki's body and being "alive" again with Rokka.
    • And with Atsushi's deadpan, cringe-worthy joke in Episode 10 implying he might kill Rokka and frame Hazuki for it, Rokka can also die for Atsushi (or Hazuki), assuming he remains in ghost form.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The ending of the anime, which reveals that Hazuki and Rokka indeed got married, had a daughter, and lived the rest of their lives together. Hazuki was even able to fulfill his promise to Rokka and outlive her; peacefully "following her into death" sometime later after meeting his grandson. And last but not least, it is at least implied that Shimao, after securing a promise from said grandson to dispose of all of Shimao's things (which were cared for in his old room all the time Hazuki and Rokka were alive), the ghost was finally able to move on, floating away into the clouds.
  • Narm:
    • Run of Atsushi. We understand that he never engaged in physical education, but has he never seen people running around?
    • The last episode is so psychedelic and strange that it sometimes hurts to look.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: Rokka's outfit for her and Hazuki's amusement park date. Basket hat, yellow scarf, blue shirt, green pants, and God's eye earrings.
