YMMV / My Pokémon Ranch

Go To

  • Broken Base: The origami styling of the Pokémon. Some think they're adorable (as Pokémon should), others think that they look ugly and really lazily-designed, and some think they look creepy. This extends to the Pokémon Rumble games.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Check the main page.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: One of the reasons some players stomached the mind-boggling design choices was the chance to obtain a free Mew.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Wanted to use this game as a dumping ground for your Pokémon, start a new game, then withdraw them back into the new file? Well, for reasons only known to Nintendo and Game Freak, My Pokémon Ranch is specifically programmed to only allow Pokémon to be withdrawn by the exact save file that deposited them. This design flaw makes the game completely useless for most players, and the fact this was never patched didn't help matters. Tellingly, Game Freak avoided this form of pseudo-DRM when it came to Pokémon Bank. Also, the update that made the game compatible with Platinum never released outside of Japan, and the game was never made compatible with any other Pokémon games at all.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Pokémon Box, a storage system for Ruby and Sapphire on the GameCube.
