• Director Displacement: The film was promoted as a Sergio Leone film when the overall director was Tonino Valerii. That said, Leone did direct the opening scene and the final showdown with the Wild Bunch.
• Older Than They Think: The ending shows a renowned gunslinger fake his death to avoid having to deal with reputation-hunting gunslingers for the rest of his life, while leaving behind a Metaphorically True inscription on the marker for the grave that supposedly contains his body. The Fastest Gun Alive did the same thing sixteen years earlier.
