- Adaptation Displacement: It's (in some ways) an adaptation of a very obscure children's book called My Dad the Rock Star: Rebel without a Nose Ring.
- Cult Classic: While the series has had its share of detractors (Watchmojo, for instance, had it in their list of 10 cartoons from the 2000s that aged poorly), it still has a decent-sized fanbase who consider it a great series (Common Sense Media gave it a 4 out of 5, for instance). It earned very good ratings on Teletoon, despite its short run and still holds nostalgic value for many, who deem it one of the classic Teletoon shows of the early 2000s.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- An episode has a Take That! against a No Celebrities Were Harmed version of The Osbournes, with Gene Simmons expy Rock Zilla's attempts to get a family reality show of his own shown as being misguided and stupid. A few years later, we get Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
- An aging music star married to a woman with big pink hair and a love for all life on Earth? Gee, guess we'll never see that dynamic again...
- This wouldn't be the last cartoon where the Team Pet of an oddball family is a Komodo dragon.
- The dynamic of a red-haired teenage boy and his rock star father would be used again for Duncanville.
- Presumed Flop: A lot of people thought the show was canceled as the show's episodes are not memorable and it only had 26 episodes. But it actually had great ratings when the show was airing on its origin channel. The only reason it was canceled was because Gene Simmons wanted to focus more on different projects.
- Ugly Cute: Mosh. A Komodo Dragon with the mannerisms of a dog!
- Vanilla Protagonist: Willy is written as a very grounded character to contrast with his extremely over-the-top father, whose relationship with him is of course a fundamental part of the series.
