These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
Unfortunate Implications: You're a gay guy in a romantic comedy? You ONLY exist to hook up your white straight girl friend with the boy of her dreams, even if you think the whole deal is freaking stupid and you're actually right!
In fairness, George is cast as a Beleaguered Assistant in that he actually has a life of his own, including a partner. One of the funnier scenes in the movie has him and his partner Werner hosting a dinner party while Julianne is calling from Chicago, frantically shrieking a message into his answering machine. He was also only going to make a brief swing by Chicago to check up on her, because he had to go to "this thing" at Werner's parents' house in the Hamptons. But decides to stay when he sees the depth of the mayhem unfolding.
