* AcceptableTargets: "Hardcore gamers," jocks, VideoGame/CallOfDuty, various forms of -ists (racists, sexists, etc.), Creator/MeganFox, Creator/MichaelBay and the American political right wing, among others.
** Bob himself is this among a large portion of the internet, be it for his opinions or his shows.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: In his review of ''TrueGrit'', he takes back calling Creator/MichaelBay [[TakeThat a douchebag]]. He still thinks Bay's a bad director, but that kind of crossed the line.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: [[EvilCounterpart The Game Antithinker]] definitely qualifies. He's either [[RuleOfFunny a nice comedic divergence]], or another annoying and pointless TakeThat to MovieBob's opinion of "hardcore gamers".
* BrokenBase:
** The ''COMICS! ARE! WEEEEEIIIRD!'' RunningGag and its variations. For some people, it gets worse and worse every time, while others just can't get enough of it.
** Bob's views on "Retake ''Franchise/MassEffect''". Some feel that this was a welcome rebuttal to the [[FanDumb more vocal elements]] of the gamer community, while others feel that he is CompletelyMissingThePoint as to why people didn't like the ending to ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'', and many flat-out rejected his opinion due to him saying he hadn't played the games before, and didn't even look at the endings until his very last video.
** His review of ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2'' is the former taken up to eleven, as it supposedly, in his words, "broke him", and fans are divided whether to feel bad for him or say how much he's {{wangst}}ing about it.
** Bob posted a second video defending ''Film/SpiderMan3''. Some agreed and liked the film, but the rest were annoyed by the condescending title ("Why You're Wrong about Spider-Man 3"). A third group didn't care about the movie, but was tired of Bob's whining.
* CriticalResearchFailure: His review of the Warcraft movie contains several complaints about it being set in the "backstory" of the game. Apparently he was unaware the MMO wasn't the beginning of the series.
* DontShootTheMessage: There are fans who focus primarily on the message and talking points rather than MovieBob's abrasive attitude.
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Ivan, the intern. By far, the most popular supporting character of ''The Game Overthinker''. When Bob announced that [[EndOfAnAge the show was going to change its format]] because he wasn't able to maintain it [[ScrewedByTheNetwork after Blip removed the show from their site]], many fans asked him to please keep the little guy around. Fortunately for them, Bob affirmed that Ivan wasn't going anywhere, nor anyone from the supporting cast, for that matter.
* EveryoneIsJesusInPurgatory: It's called "The Game ''Overthinker''", after all.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** This quote:
--> "The subwoofer was never meant to be ''weaponized''."
** When he gives the Pool Cleaning Robot from ''Film/ParanormalActivity2'' Best Character of the Year in his 2010 MovieBob Awards Video.
* HePannedItNowHeSucks: Bob is particularly prone to this because of his tendency to not simply assert that a movie sucks, but also that [[OpinionMyopia everyone else knows it sucks]], and [[FanHater anyone claiming to like it is actually just loyal to the franchise]].
** After his ''Film/{{Pixels}}'' review went viral, Bob started doing much more negative, virtriolic reviews in that style to try to keep up the fame he gathered from that review, though it's clearly forced. This more negative attitude turned some fans off. However, it was kind of short lived, and he went back to his more balanced style once he started to make reviews for Geek.com.
* HilariousInHindsight: In his movie review of ''Film/GIJoeTheRiseOfCobra'', he makes the suggestion that the film would achieve a gigantic level of metaphysical self-awareness if [[spoiler:it revealed at the end that it was all a kid playing in a sandbox]]. Fast-forward to 2014, and he is heaping praise on ''The Lego Movie'', a film with an eerily similar reveal.
** Two circumstances arise - one, Bob says that the mission statement of ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'' is to see if a mainstream hit can be gleaned from stacking obscure Marvel references together. Two, he remarks about wanting to get a reboot of a certain Marvel character in an episode of ''The Big Picture''. And then, in the post-credits sequence of ''Guardians of the Galaxy'', [[spoiler:that very character shows up as one of The Collector's possessions. That character? ''ComicBook/HowardTheDuck!'']]
** In one of his ''Transformers'' reviews he complains about Michael Bay's fetishistic approach to inserting the US military into everything. He posits a a scenario where Franchise/{{Batman}} gets interrupted while interrogating the Joker and gets told to chill which the military cleans up Gotham for him, just to show how annoying it is. Not long after, the military ''do'' show up in ''The Dark Knight Rises'', but they don't turn out [[UnwittingPawn quite as effective]]...
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhzyOzItDnc his very first Game Overthinker video]] (where he complains at length about how colourful creative protagonists have been phased out in favour of making every game hero [[ActionGenreHeroGuy an interchangeable grizzled white guy]]) he ended the video by asking developers to, the next time they're creating a game hero, consider if he could possibly be... [[EverythingsBetterWithMonkeys a monkey]] (illustrated with an image of [[VideoGame/BionicCommando Nathan Spencer]] with the head of a silverback gorilla photoshopped over his)? Fast forward ''eight years'' and [[Creator/BlizzardEntertainment Blizzard]] release [[VideoGame/{{Overwatch}} a bright, colourful action game]] where one of the most prominent characters is a large gorilla in powered armour...
* HumorDissonance: His ''Really That Good'' episode focusing on the original ''Film/NationalLampoonsVacation'' is entirely predicated on how funny it is. After making this statement, Bob cuts to a montage of [[OrphanedPunchline Orphaned Punchlines]] from the movie which is completely unfunny. This is especially odd given that half the video is him explaining just how specific to it's intended audience the movie is.
* HypeBacklash: Eventually received this, probably after his move to ScrewAttack and him going to The Escapist.
* LoveItOrHateIt: Moviebob can stir some very strong feelings in people. Fans feel that the reviews are full of smart analyses and Bob himself is a teller of harsh truths while his detractors feel the show is condescending and he has a bad case of RightlySelfRighteous. Detractors feel he's got an extreme case of BiasSteamroller while his fans argue that all reviewers are biased in their own ways and Bob himself is no different. Lastly some contention comes distinctly from the OpinionMyopia entry below, where it is easily felt MovieBob gets too aggressive or academic when someone disagrees with him over taste.
* MemeticMutation:
** On [[https://kiwifarms.net/ Kiwi Farms]], there's variations on the idea of Bob [[AnArmAndALeg having no feet]], acting as both a crack against his Diabetes and his propensity for being filmed from the waist-up.
** [[MoralMyopia "There are no bad tactics. Only bad targets."]]
** It has also become somewhat popular to edit nazi/facist-related imagery onto his pictures and videos ever since he made a couple of rants on Twitter wich included loads of UnfortunateImplications for many detractors.
* {{Narm}}: His SuperMarioBros3 novel contains a lot of hyperbolic statements about the console wars, like considering it "His own personal Vietnam" and also how the reveal of the game in TheWizard was the equivalent of JFK's assassination or 9/11. It is very hard to take seriously.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Some Escapist viewers who know him mainly for "Escape to the Movies" and "The Big Picture" were surprised to hear about his previous series "The Game Overthinker".
* OpinionMyopia: If he really doesn't like it, anyone who says they do like it is lying or stupid. If he really ''does'' like it, anyone who ''doesn't'' is either lying, stupid, or ''morally deficient''. He's not subtle about this, and frequently says it flat-out.
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: Discussed in Episode 16 of "The Game Overthinker," as advice to non-gamer gift-giver.
* SeasonalRot: The ChannelHop to ScrewAttack has resulted in some weaker videos in some people's eyes. The Game Antithinker is considered being a JumpTheShark moment for some.
* ShockingSwerve: Episode 43 of "The Game Overthinker", where the Antithinker is introduced. Before then, the show was completely grounded in reality, without the slightest indication that it was about anything other than a man talking about video games, or that said man is actually portraying a fictional character and not himself. After that, NothingIsTheSameAnymore.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Discussed in "Building A Better Gamer." To paraphrase, gamers may not be the violent psychopaths waiting to happen that politicians tend to portray them as but they're also not helping matters by being grody, disturbingly rude sociophobes.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Bob's review of ''The Amazing Spider-Man 2'' has him refer to it as the movie that "broke him." However, it rings a bit hollow since he did think the movie was better than the original which makes it hard to believe it was so bad to merit two videos about how the ''Amazing'' series is awful and everyone else is wrong about the third Raimi Spider-Man movie.
* {{Wangst}}: Some feel him saying that ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2'' had been the movie that finally "broke him" is basically this.
** Also, his infamous contempt for almost ''everything'' that he talks about related to the 90s, considering his FreudianExcuse (He went to high school in the 90s and was bullied a lot there).
** His three part look back at Kevin Smith's career, as well as his discussion on SoBadItsGood movies in relation to Tusk left a lot of people sour. As Bob tried to explain why Smith was a BrokenPedestal to him, it became clear a lot of Bob's issues stemmed from him expecting more from Smith as a film maker than the director ever really wanted to be.
** His review of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice came off as him whining about the movie rather than a critical review. Him not going through his review of The Killing Joke without complaining about Dawn of Justice didn't help much either.
** His constant wangsting about Dawn of Justice and The Amazing Spider Man films comes off as hypocritical when you take into account that he had previously made an Escape to the Movies video where he basically told people to stop doing the same thing with ''Film/ThePhantomMenace''. If it's a movie you really hate but he doesn't think is that bad you should stop complaining about it and let it go, but if it's a movie ''he'' really hates he'll complain about it like it's the worst thing ever any chance he gets and ''you're'' the tasteless idiot or brainwashed fanboy if you think he's laying it on a bit thick.
** Whenever he reviews a DC film it's one of those situations that makes you say in a deadpan manner "here we go again" because whining about a DC movie seems to be his M.O at this point. Which is why is positive review of the Supergirl tv series was surprising.
* WinBackTheCrowd: Many of his The Big Picture videos, such as "Not Okay" and "Pink is Not the Problem," have gained positive attention for their messages.
** Bob's second ChannelHop back to Screwattack which brought the return of the "traditional" Game Overthinker and the [[BlatantLies totally new show In Bob We Trust]] have seen this reaction as well.
