• Audience-Alienating Era: His WCW run, especially as "That 70s Guy" and the "fat chick thrilla" gimmick.
• Awesome Ego: Incredibly Lame Pun aside. In ECW at least, he didn't really get the chance in WCW or WWE.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: He was a huge star in Japan for years while being utterly obscure in the U.S.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Joey Styles's commentary at ECW One Night Stand 2005 becomes this after remembering that Awesome hung himself not 18 months later.
  Joey Styles: Suicide dive by Mike Awesome! And it's a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life!!
• Shocking Moments: Yes. During his match with Tanaka at ECW November to Remember 99, he hit a sit-out Awesome Bomb from the apron through a table to the floor. The crowd did the usual "ECW ECW ECW!" chant until they suddenly realized what they had just seen, and started chanting "Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!"
