YMMV / Mighty Avengers

Go To

  • Designated Villain: The Unspoken, former king of the Inhumans, got kicked out of Attilan and rendered an unperson for the heinous crime of... wanting to get rid of the machine designed to turn all humans into Alpha Primitives? Yeah, not Black Bolt and Medusa's finest moment, that one.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Hercules urged Pym to lead the Avengers against the "Chaos cascade", in the first arc of the second volume. Before accepting Pym refuses, and tells Hercules to do it: he has led soldiers to war in the past, so why not him? Some years later, Hercules led all superheroes against the God of Chaos in the Chaos War. Why not him, Pym once asked? That crossover's events show why.
    • Everything involving Hank Pym during Bendis' run, when it turns out he's been replaced by a Skrull.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Carol Danvers getting killed by a nuke to the face. Might've been more worrying if she didn't have her own series going on at the same time.
  • Narm:
    • The first six issues are drawn by Frank Cho, well known for his fondness for cheesecake, but it does sort of ruin the mood when Ultron's trying to bring an end to the world as a butt-naked woman, to say nothing of all the gratuitous ass-shots everywhere.
    • Later on, Doctor Doom's out-of-character insults to Ms Marvel, and even moreso her unspoken response: "that hurt my feelings".
  • Never Live It Down: To this day, there are those who are still mocking the Doom Rant from issue 9.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: According to Dan Slott, this was his main goal when he worked with Henry Pym. Whether he actually succeeded or not is a matter of debate.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Ultron hacks all the old Iron Man armors, and sends them against the Avengers. One of these armours is the infamous one with a nose. Ares trashes its face.
  • Wangst: From the opening issue of Slott's run, Hank Pym regales everyone with how he's always felt inferior because he found out Iron Man was Tony Stark in the early days of the Avengers. Amadeus Cho actually retorts he's being whiney. Justified since chronically low self-confidence has always been one of Hank's characteristics.
