YMMV / Mickey's Speedway USA

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: Donald's nephews, as they have higher average stats than the default characters.
    • Huey is moderately more balanced, combining Mickey/Donald's weight and handling with Goofy/Pete's acceleration and top speed, resulting in a surprisingly effective setup that keeps the larger characters' speed while benefiting from the handling stat of the fully balanced medium characters, allowing them to travel around the courses quickly while maintaining good control over their kart's steering.
    • Dewey, despite sharing Minnie and Daisy's stat spreads, is the only racer to benefit from perfect acceleration— in other words almost nothing will stop their progress in races and they can recover from oncoming attacks and driving into walls and offroad better than anyone else.
    • Louie is also based on Minnie and Daisy's stats, but has one extra point in handling and an extra point in top speed.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The 1st place victory theme sounds truly epic.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The game is on par with the other Nintendo 64 Mascot Racer games (Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, LEGO Racers) and while it might not be as innovative as the other games, it certainly delivers a stellar soundtrack!
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Unlocking Huey requires a GBC copy of the game and a Game Transfer Pack. If you don't have both, you can't unlock him. The Japanese version merely requires obtaining a time ghost token through the Time Trial mode instead.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The game lacks features and Replay Value like the other games, however it is fun to play from time to time, especially multiplayer.
  • That One Level: Three levels in the last circuit, Frantic Finale:
    • Hawaii has narrow drives over water and falling coconuts that act as blocks.
    • Oregon has a bridge near the course end which requires absolutely perfect movement, or you fall into the water and lose several places.
    • Colorado has ungodly sharp turns and many easy-to-fall-off ledges. You're gonna need that Unlimited Retries cheat before attempting the last two.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Rare is developing a Disney racing game for the Nintendo 64, based off of Mario Kart 64? Cool! And it's going to star Mickey Mouse and friends? Awesome! We can't wait to race in Toon Town, a Clock Cleaners stage, and maybe even the Pride Lands from The Lion King! Wait, you say it's only going to take place in The United States? And it's only going to use real world locations, like Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago? Oh. Okay then.
