- Audience-Alienating Premise: A somewhat literal example. Antonioni made his films as the studies of the alienazione/alienation (of the modern bourgeois bohemians) so that his name is associated with that term. In that way he alienated much of his audience. People say in plain language that his films are boring. Because they desire an interesting plot and are alienated by all that alienation going on.
