* AuthorsSavingThrow: Possibly in [[BrokenBase response]] to the DarkerAndEdgier ending of ''VideoGame/MegaMan7'', ''8'' seemed to be made to be a LighterAndSofter installment to try and reinforce Mega Man's IncorruptiblePurePureness.
** Some have also likened the Wily Capsule from this game to a significantly {{nerf}}ed version of the notoriously difficult Wily Capsule at the end of ''Mega Man 7''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: The art style's [[LoveItOrHateIt contested]], but the designs and backgrounds are not unpleasant to look at and have held up quite well in the intervening years
* EvilIsSexy: Bass. Just listen to '''''THAT VOICE'''''. Especially during the InnerMonologue in the opening cutscene.
* GameBreaker: The Arrow Shot upgrade will essentially [[OneHitKill one-shot]] every regular mook in the game. Including Sniper Joes that have ''their shields up''.
** The Rock Ball/Mega Ball which the player gets at the beginning of the game, actually allows players to speed through a lot of the game [[DifficultButAwesome using a technique called ball jumping]].
* HarsherInHindsight: The stage select is accompanied with a globe of the earth, with Dr. Light's Lab being in UsefulNotes/{{Denver}}, [[{{Eagleland}} CO]]. Note the position in the 2nd select screen of [[{{Qurac}} Wily Tower]]... ''then'' note that this was made ''before'' [[TheWarOnTerror September 11th, 2001]].
* ItsEasySoItSucks: A major point of criticism by many longtime Classic series fans. Keep in mind, though, it's only easy by ''Mega Man'' [[NintendoHard standards]] -- and there are still a few specific bits that'll make you tear your hair out.
* MemeticMolester: Clown Man likes to use his long hands to grab Mega Man from below... Yikes. And then there's his death quote...
-->'''Clown Man:''' "See you in my ''dreams''..."
* MemeticMutation: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmMispgpUs0 Doctah]] [[ElmuhFuddSyndwome Wahwee.]]
** "[[AccentUponTheWrongSyllable Don't run AWAY, coward. You'll PAY for this INsult. OUI'LL be back..."]]
*** Which sounds like a teenage boy who can't act [[LargeHam yet trying to]], in his mother's closet in the middle of the night.
** [[UnexpectedGameplayChange Jump! Jump!]] [[MostAnnoyingSound Slide! Slide!]]
* {{Narm}}: A lot of the voice acting, but Mega Man, Dr. Light, and Bass stand out.
** Even Rush somehow manages to get in on this, despite "speaking" in barks and growls.
* NarmCharm: A lot of the voice acting, for, pretty much the same reasons as above. The corny acting gives it another layer of lighthearted enjoyment, [[SoBadItsGood regardless if it was intentional or not]].
* PolishedPort: The UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn version, for adding some new content such as extra bosses and art galleries. Sadly, ''[[CompilationRerelease Mega Man Anniversary Collection]]'' does not use this version, likely due to the [=PS1=] version being easier to port to another console.
* PortingDisaster: The ''Anniversary Collection'' ports all around. In particular, the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoGameCube GameCube]] version, which has numerous issues with sound emulation, such as skipping through parts of music tracks, and bosses voices inexplicably speeding up; not to mention there were bouts of slowdown that were certainly not in the original game. Unfortunately, it was also a port of the UsefulNotes/PlayStation version, which lacked [[BonusBoss Cut Man]] and [[MiniBoss Wood Man]], and did not feature the extra galleries the [[UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn Saturn]] version added. Similarly, the [[UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 PS2]] version has input lag ''EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE'' in Frost Man's stage and the beginning of Wily Tower 1, which could hinder game progress significantly in those stages. Additionally, the UsefulNotes/{{Xbox}} version of ''Anniversary Collection'' is also [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking quite blurry compared to the original game]].
* TheScrappy: [[UnfortunateNames Aqua Man]] tends to be hated, particularly due to his personality.
* SoBadItsGood: The voice acting. Half of the characters are miscasted, and most of the acting is very wooden and sometimes downright sloppy--both in cutscene and in game voice clips are full of trips, stutters, and miscues. It gets even funnier when you realize that ''Roll'' sounds manlier than Mega Man himself! Dr. Light seems to have some issues with his [[ElmuhFuddSyndwome accent]] and even stumbles over his lines (most noticeably in the scene where they're watching over Duo), and Duo has no emotion at all. [[MemeticMutation Bass's name is mispronounced as if he were a fish.]]
* ThatOneLevel: Frost Man's stage, and, much worse, ''Dr. Wily Stage 1''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpyyucWlLz0 Jump! Jump! Slide! Slide!]]
