YMMV: Mediochre Q Seth Series

  • Ass Pull: In Black, White and Shades of Mediochre, Joseph literally pulls a previously-unmentioned BFG from his trousers at one point.
  • Crazy Awesome: Mediochre. “Scale of 1 to 10? Tuesday.”
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Everything Mediochre plays.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Professor God has a surprisingly large fanbase for such a minor character.
  • Evil Is Sexy
  • Fashion-Victim Villain: Deliberately dresses like an eccentric.
  • Faux Symbolism: Almost every appearance of black, white or grey in Black, White and Shades of Mediochre has nothing to do with the Shades of Conflict that the title refers to. Word of God is that this is deliberate.
  • Foe Yay: Millacra Karnstein badly suffers from this. But then, she is a Vampire.
  • Ho Yay: Mediochre’s relationship with Joseph degrades from innocent godfather-godson bonding to suspiciously homoerotic over time.
  • Iron Woobie: Mediochre.
  • Magnificent Bastard: The tempomancer and Mediochre both.
  • Mary Sue: Deconstructed over the course of the series in Mediochre.
  • MST3K Mantra: The Zontanecrological Note in Book II advises this.
  • No Yay: Mediochre/Charlotte. Wrong however you think about it.
    • The second book gives us Millacra's stalking of Rowan, which deliberately plays on the old Vampire-as-rapist imagery.
  • Relationship Sue: Violently subverted by Danny.
  • Stoic Woobie: Dhampinella.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Joseph and Dhampinella get temporarily removed from the main action due to being stuck outside normal space in Fervour's building. However, they do put their time isolated to good use in deducing the true identity of Carnelian.
  • Uncanny Valley: Dhampir produce this effect in people.
