** Willow, with her relentless pursuit of Joey driving people insane. Though this has improved quite a bit, especially in giving Willow things to do other than to chase Joey like being in Liv's band or greater focus on her part on the basketball team.
** Nimbus: Some people don't like his over the top personality, and the fact that he can sometimes be conceited. Though again, this has been improving especially since the show has taken these same traits and spun them into personality flaws such as in "Band-a-Rooney".
** Holden: Some people hated how he broke up with Andie on live TV. Why did he even date Andie, if he had feelings for Liv the whole time?

* HilariousInHindsight: Season 2 had Liv star in a TV show based on a superhero comic series. Now, Dove Cameron is very much a ConvertedFangirl to Marvel, especially since her role in ''WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan''. She would also have a role in ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD''

** A lot of one-episode wonder guest characters, especially if they're played by actors who have a lot of pull or name recognition with the Disney Channel fanbase like Creator/LauraMarano and Creator/PiperCurda, or are big-name stars period like Kevin James.

* {{Anvilicious}}: [[SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped As necessary as the messages may be]], the episodes "Rate-A-Rooney" and "Ask Her More-A-Rooney" are not at all subtle in their reinforcement of the message that girls are more than just their appearance, as Liv and several other characters [[CharacterFilibuster constantly spell out that very same point to the audience]].

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** Special mention goes to the episode ''Rate-a-Rooney''. This episode addressed a rather important issue about girls and their self-image. Specifically, girls are not a number that defines their appearance.
** Much like what was done in ''Jessie'', the episodes "Flugelball-a-Rooney", "Triangle-a-Rooney", and "Scoop-a-Rooney" show that the type of perfect, happy ending-relationship that tends to get reinforced on Disney Channel don't always end as such, and can get derailed for legitimate reasons beyond a person's control. Even when two people are perfect for each other, circumstances might force them to drift apart anyway.
** In a similar vein to ''Rate-a-Rooney'', ''Ask Her More-a-Rooney'' takes it further and gives an important message of how girls and women are more than just their appearance.
** From ''Kathy Kan-A-Rooney'', boys do watch shows about girls and there's nothing shameful about it. This was likely done as a nod to the male audience who watches the show.

* EnsembleDarkHorse: Stains.

* FandomRivalry: To an extent with ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder ''. The two shows premiered two days within each other, and ''Wander'', a cleverly animated show, was shafted to Creator/DisneyXD and was [[ScrewedByTheNetwork unceremoniously cancelled after its second season]] while ''Liv and Maddie'', yet another KidCom about being famous, got two or more seasons and a proper finale.

* TheCastShowoff: Tenzing Norgay Trainor gets to show off his Karate skills from time to time.

* TearJerker: Miller White's text message to Liv in "Skate-A-Rooney," which rivals the ending of the ''Series/EvenStevens'' episode "Sibling Rivalry." Also the endings of "Prom-A-Rooney," "Flugelball-A-Rooney," and "Triangle-A-Rooney." Honestly, the tearjerkers may have to be split off into a new section.
* WordOfGay: According to actress Dove Cameron, who is openly bisexual, she said in a couple of tweets that Maddie was definitely gay and that Liv was bisexual.

** This troper thinks that it is obvious that Joey is [[CampGay gay]], given his flamboyant behaviour.

* HarsherInHindsight: The ''entire'' Maddie/Diggie relationship, especially during their breakup now that Dove Cameron and Ryan [=McCartan=] have broken up in real life. Most notably, how Diggie treated Maddie in "Flugelball-a-Rooney" becomes a ''lot'' harder to watch when after her breakup, Dove claimed Ryan was terrible to her.

* HoYay: Joey seems to have a crush on Diggie any time the two are on screen together. At times he seems to enjoy his company, even more than Maddie does (Diggie's girlfriend).
