YMMV / Linus Tech Tips

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The Titlecard intro "Supernova" for the regular product reviews is quite awesome to listen to, to say the least. The comments on the music video is overrun by people coming from Linus Tech Tips to put down a random Product Placement that the show usednote
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Dennis Liao (one of LMG's editors) is a frequent fan favourite due to his general nature, frequently bizarre outlook on life and "interesting" approach to carrying out simple tasks, all of which typically combine to leave Linus simultaneously confused and exasperated.
    • Madison became wildly popular with fans after her appearance in ROG Reboot 2019 for her hilarious back-and-forth with Linus. Needless to say the audience was overjoyed when Linus revealed she had been hired full time as Linus Media Group's social media coordinator.
    • Emily-hosted videos tend to be very well received due to her pleasant voice, mellow personality, and variety of esoteric knowledge.
  • Funny Moments:
  • Harsher in Hindsight
    • A 2019 video where Linus and Kyle of Bit Wit have their respective wives compete in a PC build-off got a lot less funny after Kyle announced his divorce over a year later.
    • The videos with Madison apparently irritating Linus come off as slightly awkward after she left Linus Media Group under bad terms at the end of 2021. It got even worse in 2023 in the aftermath of two scathing Gamers Nexus exposes on Linus Media Group's working conditions and processes, which prompted Madison to reveal the lengthy list of harassment and abuse she received while working at the company.
    • The "Roast of Linus Sebastian" also feels much harsher in hindsight, given that Gamers Nexus' Steve Burke was one of the roasters that night, making several jabs at Linus' integrity and testing methodologies (points that would be echoed by Steve in his 2023 video criticising LMG), as well as some apparently sincere compliments about LTT being a good introduction into the tech space.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the April 2022 video "The Prettiest Gaming Setup - Intel $5,000 Extreme Tech Upgrade", Sarah unboxes an all-black desk mat and lampshades how she isn't using a desk mat from lttstore.com. Later, in the The WAN Show on February 3, 2023, Linus announces that lttstore.com will sell all-black "stealth" desk mats.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • LinusDropTips: Whenever Linus drops something, this is often seen in the comments.
    • /r/LinusFaces: A subreddit that screencaps the many weird and wonderful faces of the LTT Crew (mostly Linus though)
    • Linus Sad Faceexplanation
    • Linus Selfieexplanation
    • In "RTX 3090 SLI - We Tried so Hard to Love It", Linus says he is turning all the game settings to the max "except Motion Blur. [beep] motion blur". So many PC gamers agree with the sentiment, they started making memes that directly quote Linus on motion blur in the context of video games.
  • More Popular Spin-Off: Linus Tech Tips was originally the secondary channel, with NCIX Tech Tips being the primary one. When Linus left NCIX in 2013, Linus Tech Tips became Linus Media Group's primary channel, with its growth rate beginning to outstrip that of NCIX Tech Tips. By the time NCIX reached 1 million subscribers in November 2016, Linus Tech Tips had over 3 million, and Techquickie (itself a 'spinoff' of Linus Tech Tips) had already surpassed 1 million in July of the same year.
