• Tearjerker: The manga's Downer Ending. Cossette and Eiri were in love, and he was going to let her torture him enough for the blood pact to be fulfilled so she could be freed from the mortal plane and her soul could cross over to the afterlife, where she would be waiting for him when his own life came to its natural end. Than he dies in an accident, ruining their chance to be together in death and forcing her to start all over again to try and get freed from the mortal world.
• Retroactive Recognition: This OVA was pretty obscure for a while, but since Akiyuki Shinbo has made a name for himself at Studio SHAFT it has received some notice. It is sometimes termed the quintessential Shinbo, being the only project where he made his own story and had the budget to animate it fully.
• What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?: A man is effectively crucified and made to bear the pain for the sins of another? That sounds familiar.
