YMMV / Kurt Cobain

  • Ear Worm: Pretty much all of Nirvana's hits.
  • Face of the Band
  • "Funny Aneurysm" Moment: There are several publicity shots, including one that graces the main page, of Cobain holding a gun in his mouth.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Many songs of his have become uncomfortable since his death, particularly "Come As You Are", which has the line "And I swear that I don't have a gun / No, I don't have a gun..." Not to mention I Hate Myself And I Want To Die.
  • Hype Backlash: He's so often described as one of the most important musicians of the last twenty years that this reaction often comes about.
  • It's Popular, Now It Sucks!: Interesting example - Kurt loved Nevermind, until its more mainstream feel won him fans whom he felt didn't understand his message.
  • Nausea Fuel: Cobain had a fascination with human anatomy. Many of his lyrics and album artwork feature disturbing Body Horror imagery of this kind.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis: The first thing most people think about when they hear the name Kurt Cobain is not his music per sé, but the fact that his name is so linked to suicide.
  • Tearjerker: Just the fact that a lot of his life growing up was harsh and painful, both physically and spiritually. Even visiting some of the places where he'd lived - including the spot under the bridge of his hometown where he'd survive as a runaway - can be depressing.
  • Too Cool to Live
  • True Art Is Angsty
  • True Art Is Incomprehensible: Cobain himself admitted that even he wasn't entirely sure what some of his lyrics were about.
  • The Woobie: NO SHIT. The poor dude had a very tragic life growing up, his mental state and physical state were completely damaged, he had an immense Guilt Complex and the only thing that kept him sane was his drug addiction. Just when it seemed he was getting better thanks to Frances, he fell further and ended his life, at the young age of 27.
  • Yoko Oh No: As stated before, much of the fandom thinks that Courtney Love killed him, directly or indirectly.
