• Catharsis Factor: Those who feel the King tends to get off easy for his strict behavior in the games will find what happens to him in the comic satisfying: his pride takes a huge hit when it is revealed almost everyone considers the Prince to be far more reliable than him, then he enters a deep depression when a series of comic misunderstandings make it seem like everyone sees him as downright useless.
• Iron Woobie: Despite all his misfortunes, the always sickly Opeo has resolved to become stronger by pursuing the path of the ninja.
• Jerkass Woobie: For all his faults, Ace seems honestly convinced that the Prince is just as big a Jerkass as Ace himself is, and that the Prince deliberately tries to exclude him from adventures or getting credit for his deeds.
• The Scrappy: Ace's sheer arrogance, nasty behavior, and stubborn refusal to learn from his experiences, combined with his frequent appearances, causes him to grate on a lot of readers' nerves. Fortunately there are a lot of Take That, Scrappy! moments throughout the comic.
• Tear Jerker: Following the Frosty Peak arc, Ace shows what he learned by giving the Prince an empty box. What makes this painful is how he basically tells him right to his face that in his mind, their friendship is worth NOTHING.
