YMMV: Journal Roleplay

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: Has occurred to a couple of games announced. To use some old examples, there was once a genderswap sex game about Amazons that not only had no idea how the Amazons actually worked, it made a flood of Unfortunate Implications by making the men-turned-women enslave the women-turned-men (and insisting on it even for characters who wouldn't subjugate others like that). Other short-lived examples include a game based on Now and Then, Here and There (it was accused of trivializing Child Soldiers and struggles in developing countries) and one based on But I'm a Cheerleader (players not old enough to recognize the movie thought the setting at a gay conversion camp was supposed to be portrayed positively, missing the satire and criticism that was apparent in the original work, and were outraged).
