The promotion has been defunct for at least a decade. It failed. Not horribly, but it did.

** He implied Wrestling/AAA was going in the wrong direction for years, but spent four minutes trashing on Wrestling/LuchaUnderground, and everyone lost their minds. Perhaps because it was unexpected; he gave Lucha Libre USA his seal of approval (expecting it to fail, oops). Plus, he is a big fan of famed Mexican luchadores such as Wrestling/ElSanto, Perro Aguayo (not Jr.) and Gran Hamada (plus Ayako), so it was expected he'd at least like the matches. The fact that he also sees nothing wrong with dropping massive spoilers about upcoming twists without so much as a warning doesn't help matters, especially as LU (which is taped weeks or months in advance) already has a massive problem with spoilers. Adding insult to injury, some of the spoilers for things complained about turned out to be inaccurate and misleading, meaning he was criticizing the show without even watching it and getting it wrong while doing so.He specifically called the show out for supposedly having Sexy Star beat the unstoppable Monster Matanza for the Lucha Underground championship, lambasting them for ruining their WrestlingMonster by having him lose to a girl nobody would plausibly believe could beat him. Except Sexy didn't beat Matanza; Matanza's title was on the line in Aztec Warfare III, a battle royal-type affair where half a dozen wrestlers teamed up against him and he was actually eliminated by Wrestling/ReyMysterioJr, who Matanza promptly brutalised in revenge in order to retain his heat. Sexy did end up with the belt by finally eliminating the show's other big monster Mil Muertes, which some people admittedly took issue with, but the match was convincingly booked to support Sexy's win, and either way Jim's complaints that "they had a literal man-eating monster lose to a little girl!" were miles off the mark, not to mention blatantly sexist.

** Cornette's legacy is as one of the all time great managers/personalities but not as a creative mind, as in that regard he's considered to be firmly stuck in the past. In Smoky Mountain Wrestling he had to be told why allowing Wrestling/LanceStorm and Wrestling/ChrisJericho to use the same finishing move as The Rock N'Roll Express was a bad thing (he understood why matches shouldn't be too repetitive well enough but was still of the 'this sort of gimmick means these sorts of moves' mindset) while at the same time he criticized Storm and Jericho for refusing to sleep with the rats (it will get business up, but attitudes towards sex had changed). His return as an onscreen authority in Anthem's Impact won over some of his most vocal critics, but no one was surprised to hear he left over a show changing locations, although it was revealed later that it had more to do with legal issues on Cornette's part.Namely, the show that changed locations didn't much move to another city as to move to another country, as it was moved to Ottawa, ON, and thanks to various legal troubles during the territory days, Cornette isn't allowed in Canada.
** Fans were never comfortable with Cornette's racially charged remarks, especially not his occasional outright racist joke or use of ethnic slurs, but in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s this got him "good heat". Fans in arenas wanted to kill him, news sources vilified him, fans expressed contempt for the wrestlers he managed doing nothing to keep him in check; it ultimately made money. ** Cornette's time in ROH, hated as it was by the fan base, still brought the company its highest turnouts and buy rates up to that point, ultimately playing a key role in saving a company that was in rough straits after losing founder and distributor Rob Feinstein, other founder and booker Gabe Sapolsky and many of its most popular wrestlers. Yes, ROH continued to slowly grow after Cornette left but that lends credence to Cornette's claim that Delirious knew what he was doing and that the Japanese champions were worth booking(though in the latter case it was management, as most ROH fans always agreed with him regarding the NOAH guys). When the combined pressure of Impact, All Elite and WWE saw ROH backsliding during the late 2010s more fans came to acknowledge Sinclair mismanagement was mostly to blame, especially after Joey Matthews ended up having nearly the exact same meltdown Cornette did. Furthermore, any criticism people had of Cornette's time on the booking team ended up paling in comparison to that of Bully Ray's. Some people even jokingly asked Cornette to save the company again.

three. Cornette himself points out that in the latter two cases, his primary criticisms of both of them (feeling Steen should lose a bit of weight and Zayn should take off the mask and leave the silly "El Generico" gimmick behind) turned out to be more-or-less what they did in their now wildly successful [=WWE=] careers.

** After his managerial career pretty much ended, he became available for interviews and did a lot of shoots where he praised Wrestling/KurtAngle, Delirious, Wrestling/DLoBrown, Wrestling/ValVenis, Wrestling/BookerT, Dutch Mantel, Wrestling/SamoaJoe, Wrestling/JohnCena, Wrestling/SheltonBenjamin, Wrestling/JimRoss, The Rock, Les Thatcher, Wrestling/StoneColdSteveAustin, Wrestling/MickFoley, Wrestling/Abyss, Wrestling/NigelMcGuinness, Homicide, Savio Vega, Wrestling/KentaKobashi, Wrestling/KentaKobayashi, Wrestling/JayLethal, Filthy Tom Lawlor and many others for their work. The Drunken Peasants admit to bringing him onto their show just to hear him bash WWE.

But appears to have since gotten over it., Ricky Starks, or Rhea Ripley jokingly laments the fact that it never becomes news when he likes something, only when he eviscerates it.
** Cornette at one point announced, having gotten sick of the product, that he would no longer discuss AEW's weekly television on his podcast, only to see his viewership numbers drop dramatically. Only a few weeks later, Cornette read a letter from a fan (heavily implied to be something Jim wrote himself) begging him to apply his expert knowledge to continue mocking AEW and its wrestlers, at which point he announced he would resume reviewing AEW's weekly TV. Viewership numbers quickly returned to normal.

** Cornette's legacy is as one of the all time great managers/personalities but not as a creative mind, as in that regard he's considered to be firmly stuck in the past. ** At the time of Smoky Mountain's closing, he was viewed as whiny and unwilling to take responsibility. His competence as a promoter and in financial management looked better after the closing of ECW and WCW. Cornette at least paid off his debt while Paul Heyman admitted he'd have kept operating with a debt Smoky Mountain never came close to so long as ECW had distribution.According to Cornette ECW was such a money pit that if he had never made a single dime promoting SMW he still wouldn't have lost as much money as Paul Heyman did in ECW. Meanwhile, many involved with WCW, besides running Cornette and the Expresses off from the company twice, would play significant parts in stunting TNA's growth, and at least one person was so maligned he was basically banned from the business altogether. The what? I don't see how this is a valid argument other than taking Cornette's word 100% at face value, and even then, the tone this example is written seems to just ask to attract Flame Bait.

* JerkassHasAPoint: He responded to wrestling fans claiming that modern wrestling is more "diverse" than ever before by pointing out that in his day wrestling audiences were 50-60% female and stretched across every age and socioeconomic bracket; with significant, passionate Black and Latino audiences in the South. Meanwhile, present-day wrestling fandom has basically contracted to a small pool of children and jaded fifty-somethings for the WWE and white, male nerds between 18-35 for AEW.

That being said, he absolutely does hate [=EVPs=] Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks and while he doesn't hate AEW booker/CEO Tony Khan he definitely hates his booking. ** For that matter, some people think that his whole feud with Omega is a WorkedShoot, while others believe (and Cornette himself insists) that it is absolutely real, stemming from differing wrestling philosophies and a particular incident between Omega and Cornette.Omega no-showed a major ROH show in favor of working in Japan, and Cornette, who worked in ROH at the time, has never forgiven him for it. Beyond that, and more serious for Jim, Omega wrestle a literal child, and a blow up sex-doll.

** "Laaaaaaaaaaaazy booking!" A phrase he throws around when a promotion book something that clearly has no thought put into it, like multi-man tornado tag matches with no disqualification stipulations. These type of matches are commonly spot fests with no psychology behind them, have no build up, do nothing to build feuds or promote teams in the longer term. Similar for "can they co-exist" booking the members in a feud as a tag-team to tease them imploding and fighting each other.
