* AnticlimaxBoss: New Cloud Academy in ''GO''. They're the team you face for the semifinals and they're billed as one of the strongest opponents in the competition, and their striker is supposed to be one of the best ever (and it ''shows'' in his stats) Wouldn't expect them to fall into this trope, right? Well, you happen to get ''two'' back-to-back [[EleventhHourSuperpower Eleventh Hour Superpowers]], each more ridiculously [[GameBreaker Game Breaking]] than the last, ''and'' it's one of the very few times where ''you'' get a scripted goal, so the whole thing quickly devolves into a CurbStompBattle in your favour.
** Delibarately invoked with Mt Olympus. They're the team you have to play in the finals, they're coached by the BigBad and they're supposed to be incredibly strong (winning one of their previous matches 19-0). You're also given the ominous warning that you must be in the lead by half time or you'll get a NonStandardGameOver. Yet they're suspiciously easy. [[spoiler: This is because ''there is no second half''. At half-time, the ''real'' BigBad takes over and [[BaitAndSwitchBoss subs out the entire team and their coach with his own]], and you face Dragonlink instead, who are definately a challenge befitting of a FinalBoss. And it's implied that Goenji was instructing Mt Olympus to hold back.]]
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Coach Hitomiko. She was redeemed to some after TheReveal [[spoiler:that she's been trying to stop her father's dastardly plot]], but naturally that doesn't account for everyone.
** Beta. [[spoiler: Moreso in the Asian fandom than in the overseas fandom. She is considered sadistically cute/badass by some, yet annoying by others and HOW DARES she capture Endou Mamoru!!]]
** Fuyuka and Someoka are either adored or hated with a fiery passion within the fandom.
* BizarroEpisode:
** TheMovie, which starts out as a recap of the first season then things start swerving off of continuity; and the events of TheMovie never seem to be mentioned again. An AlternateContinuity where Endou could easily point at certain people he just met and exclaim [[spoiler:they came from the future to help him win the Football Frontier]] sounds pretty confusing.
** Also, Episode 100 when Hiroto and Kogure get lost in the woods, and are challenged to a match by a pair of Kappas, no character development happens, no new techniques are learned, and it's only mentioned in a blink and you miss it scene during a flashback.
*** The Kappas surprisingly enough make a brief cameo in Go's movie.
* BreatherBoss: Kidokawa/Kirkwood in ''GO''. After the first two Nationals teams (see ThatOneBoss below), these guys are surprisingly easy, as most of the mid-match scripted events are in ''your favour'', giving your team a new tactic that lets you ignore the arena's gimmick and giving one of your members an Avatar. Also, unlike the first two teams, these guys didn't know the arena's gimmick in advance, so it hurts them just as much as it hurts you. Justified, since there's massive infighting within the team as to whether to support Fifth Sector or not, and the team's captain is more concerned with having a fun match than winning at all costs.
* BrokenBase:
** Over Inazuma Eleven ''GO'' and it's sequel, some think that it is much better than the original while others think that it is a step backwards.
* CargoShip:
** Endou x Sakka Ball OTP.
** Might be ''even more so'' with Tenma. Heck, Tenma x ''Soccer itself'' is [[CompanionCube practically canon.]]
** Fudou/Bench is also fairly popular due to [[spoiler: [[BreakTheHaughty Being benched during the Asian preliminaries]] and in ''GO'' he is found sleeping on a bench.]]
* CaptainObviousReveal: The plot twist that [[spoiler: Ishido Shuuji]] was the one who saved Tenma's life in ''GO''. Anyone familiar with the original games would've recognised [[spoiler: Gouenji]] in the flashback cutscene immidiately, so when TheReveal comes it's easy to put two and two together. It's also very easy to see coming from a plot standpoint: [[spoiler: the BigBad had [[WeUsedToBeFriends a persona connection]] with Endou, but not with the actual main character Tenma. This plot point fixes that by making him a BrokenPedestal, giving Tenma some angst and later motivation.]]
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome:
** Partially resulting from the above, the opening themes of the series work VERY well with the [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Crowning Moments Of Awesome]] and are quite catchy.
** Also, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M64CpZnAe9k&feature=related Soccer Battle]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdEKMP3oVAI&feature=related Holy Ground]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6ceFJj9cZY The Crusade of God]].
** Aliea Academy's themes, all of them. By reference: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPnHYzelorc Gemini Storm's]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voH3LjVfpq4 Epsilon's]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx6pFjNoAC4 Genesis']], and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ox7VYBhmVo Dark Emperors']]
** The ''entire soundtrack''. It's [[Creator/YasunoriMitsuda Yasunori freaking Mitsuda]], for crying out loud!
** To give couple examples from GO: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMpUhF3rnbY Unlimited Shining's]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKjgOthRfvw Ancient Dark's]] and then [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbjimVUPms this]]
* DieForOurShip: Natsumi and Fuyuka can get this pretty badly from Aki fans who think she's "entitled" to Endou's affection for being his PatientChildhoodLoveInterest. [[spoiler: It got worse when ''GO'' revealed that Endou can marry Natsumi (Light) ''or'' Fuyuka (Dark), which means Aki is ''definitely'' the UnluckyChildhoodFriend for him.]]
* DiscOneNuke: In ''GO'', some of the downloadable moves are disproportionately strong for how early in the game you can get them. In particular, it's possible to get Emperor Penguin 7 ''extremely'' early in the game, at which point it's basically an automatic goal.
** The player with White King can be aquired very early if you know what you're doing, long before you have access to most of the plot-relevant Fighting Spirits. And it's actually ''stronger'' than most of the spirits you get for a while. And White King's special ability boosts the odds of boys succeeding in duels, which, [[GameBreaker considering all your starting lineup (and pretty much 90% of the recruitable players) are male...]]
* EarWorm:
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADVcwJ69lrw STAND UP! STAND UP! TACHIAGARIYOOOO!]]
** The Spanish version would be [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAnmklPHKEg ¡ARRIBA! ¡CHUTA! ¡LA VICTORIA ES TUUUYAAAAAAAAAAA!]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=034FJTRz4kk TSUNAGARIYO HIROGARIYO (RIYO!)]] (Spoilers beware)
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiZ5vC1OKLU SHANLALALALA, SHANLALALA, SHANLALALA, SHANLALALA (RIYO!)]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmTJzeC_0NA Ryuusei boy!]]. Pretty much every OP has a part that qualifies.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15LE7k6aGTM Get up! Get up!]], from Go.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: {{Fandom}} wise, [[EvilDuo Burn and Gazelle]] seem to be this. They have a massive amount of fanart and fanfiction despite only appearing a few times.
** Fubuki and Hiroto, speak their names and you will hear fangirl scream everywhere.
** Endou becomes this in ''GO''.
* [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff Europeans Love Inazuma Eleven]]: Specially in Spain and Italy. Both the TV show, which has become a new GetawaySeries for a new generation of kids, and the games, which are top sellers.
* FanonDiscontinuity: A lot of the fandom doesn't care for game canon because of how many different options available and a lack of "true story". Various things from the games they tend to disregard include [[spoiler: Kazemaru's beatdown, the Kogure/Haruna ship tease (they substitute it with the anime's Tachimukai/Haruna ship tease) and Endou marrying Fuyuka in GO (Dark).]]
* FanPreferredCouple: Endou and Aki, as opposed to the OfficialCouple formed by Endou and [[spoiler: either Natsumi or Fuyuka depending on adaptation]]. Though most of the fans got over it when they realized that [[spoiler: she has more of a chance with [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Ichinose]].]]
** Similarly, some fans shipped Natsumi more with Goenji rather than with [[spoiler: her eventual husband]] Endou.
* FoeYay:
** Hiroto and Endou.
---> ''I'm in love, Endou-kun, with those eyes of yours!''
** Endou is pretty much a FoeYay magnet for the top tiers of Aliea. Each of the captains just has to meet him even once to become inordinately obsessed with him.
*** Or rather, Endou is a foe magnet period and [[FaceHeelTurn resulting]] [[HeelFaceTurn developments]] flips back and forth between HoYay and FoeYay.
** Kidou and Fudou.
** Kirino and Kariya, Tsurugi with either Tenma or Shindou [[spoiler: until his HeelFaceTurn]] in ''GO!''.
* GoodBadBugs: In Inazuma Eleven GO, when the game's graphics engine decides what direction to draw a character facing, acceleration seems to take precedence over velocity. In most cases, this makes perfect sense.[[note]]for example, one would expect someone trying stop quickly to both face and accelerate in the opposite direction of his velocity vector.[[/note]] But with the SlippySlideyIceWorld physics of Snow Land Stadium, characters may be slowly decelerating due to skidding, meaning they should be facing the direction they're moving in but their acceleration vector is in the opposite direction. This causes characters to start ''moonwalking''. [[CrowningMomentOfFunny Even if they're simultaneously dribbling the ball.]]
* HoYay: EVERYWHERE. So much so that it even has its ''[[HoYay/InazumaEleven own page]]''.
* InternetBackdraft:
** Some fans are not happy with the addition of Avatars in ''GO''. And Level 5 goes ahead and adds the Armed mode in ''Chrono Stone''...
*** This was probably the reason why Avatars and Armed Mode were removed in Galaxy. Then again, they also replaced many of the old characters with new ones, which caused an InternetBackdraft as well...
** Endou in ''GO'' getting married to [[spoiler:''either'' Natsumi or Fuyuka--cries of Hino supporting polygamy flew around]].
** A lot of people in Europe--and beyond--strongly dislike of the DubNameChange the characters had...
*** Europe's localization of Go's manga, this time with the names from ''all Europe''. What's weird is that they changed a japanese name ''[[http://images.4chan.org/cm/src/1351055090088.jpg for another Japanese name, Sangoku has a Korean-ish name and Nishiki kept his name.]]''
** American fans are ''not'' happy with Level-5's NoExportForYou of the games and the anime, often having to import the games from Europe with the dreaded DubNameChange. Even Latin America got the anime first.[[note]]Bonus points for being dubbed directly from the original Japanese instead of reddubing the EUR version, thus keeping original names and dialogs are as close as they can be.[[/note]]
*** It's finally come to America! ...Only the first one, cut from the compilation game and download only. Fans were less the thrilled.
** The Korean fanbase (yes, such a thing exists) was not pleased with the appearance of [[spoiler:Toyotomi Hideyoshi]] in ''Chrono Stone'' [[spoiler: [[UsefulNotes/ToyotomiHideyoshi for obvious reasons]]]].
* LauncherOfAThousandShips:
** Tenma, too, as according to some characters he's an Endou's clone.
** All of the [[TheAce Inazuma All Stars]] could be considered this.
** Shindou, definitely. He's shipped with [[ThoseTwoGuys Kirino]], [[FanGirl Akane]], [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex Ibuki]], [[AllLovingHero Tenma]], [[spoiler: in the beginning]] [[FoeYay Tsurugi]] and [[TimeTravelRomance Okatsu]], just to name the main ones.
* MemeticBadass: Endou becomes this as in episode 7 of ''GO''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kgUlH6kv5A Endou is like a boss.]]
* MemeticMutation:
** "''[[CatchPhrase SAKKA YAROUZE!]]''" -- The Internet's View Of Everything That Comes Out Of Endou's Mouth
** "WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE NETS MADE OF?!" Because, seriously.
** "''[[SayMyName KAAAAGEEEYAAAMAAAAA!]]''" Quoted for Kidou's constant dramatic screaming of his name.
** ''CAR ACCIDENT''.
** Writing "soccer" as "SAKKA".
** Where the hell is the ref?! / What are they paying the refs for?!
** Summarizing the series as "little boys playing magical soccer".
** * Insert Sport Here* YAROUZE! Then drawling the characters from the show playing said sport.
*** ''X YAROUZE!'' in general.
** No.
** Yes.
* {{Moe}}:
** Shinsuke from ''GO''.
** Tachimukai and Hikaru from ''GO'' probably also count.
* NarmCharm: As said by a [=YouTube=] user:
---> "This storyline is so stupid, but in such a lovable way."
* PeripheryDemographic: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS [[YaoiFangirl FUJOSHI]] FODDER IS FOR BOYS?!!
* PlayerPunch: A non-lethal variant in the second game, when [[spoiler:Kazemaru is the victim of a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown that gets him [[PutOnABus Put On An Ambulance]].]]
* PsychologicalHorror: The second season (Aliea Academy arc) has this all over the place that it makes you wonder whether it was originally written as one. [[spoiler: Fubuki is one of the most mentally unstable players in the series and his deterioration is increasingly uncomfortable to see, Kazemaru was beaten up (game) or lost his will (anime) which is especially worse in the anime given that Kazemaru accepted the Aliea crystal because he couldn't keep up with Endou, and the things Aliea Academy has done can further push this trope.]]
* ShipsThatPassInTheNight: Fudou/Fuyuka is the most popular hetero ship for both the characters and one of the most popular het ships fandomwise even though they never interact even once throughout the entire series. The ships popularity might stem from their similar names, relationship with Coach Kudou and fondness for...bananas.
* ThatOneBoss:
** The Occult team in the first game. They show up really early, their an obnoxious difficulty spike in a generally easy game, they automatically score a goal and end the first half, to score against them in the second half you need to dance around a bunch of event flags (which is also disruptive to the game's atmosphere), oh and drawing against them is an automatic loss and gameover(!). Their a lot easier if you realize you should fire up and score a quick goal in the first half, but then they seem to demand a sudden knowledge of mechanics and flags very early in the game.
** ''Inazuma Eleven 2'' cranks the in-match scripted events UpToEleven. The worst offender: Shin Teikoku. Sakuma shoots every ten minutes on the second, no matter which side has control of the ball or where it is on the field, effectively pulling the ball as far away from the goal as possible every ten minute, making victory basically impossible the first time around. You can retry the match after losing the first time and do it without events, but that should never have to be a requirement to proceed.
** ''Inazuma Eleven GO'' while not as bad as the previous examples there is [[spoiler:Dragonlink]] they do not qualify as this in story mode but ''when ever you play them afterwards''. Their entire team is composed of [[SuperMode avatar users]] which is not only intimidating, but they can appear faster then the game allows you to use your own avatars. Also they have a hissatsu technique that puts them right in the line of fire for goals without having much ability to defend against them.
** Earlier, Lunar Sea Military Academy falls stand out as a [[WakeUpCallBoss brutal introduction]] to how much of a DifficultySpike the Saint's Way Nationals are going to be compared to the regionals. Firstly, they introduce field obstacles here, in this case whirlwinds that have an annoying tendancy to appear right on you while you have the ball. Made worse by the fact that Tenma uses one of his Hissatsu to get past them in a cutscene and ''you can't do this in-game''. Speaking of scripted events, the opposing team have a special tactic that can't be broken until after the first half for plot reasons. Thir goalkeeper has an Avatar, and a pretty strong one at that, so you can't expect auto-goals from your own Avatar users anymore. Even after his Avatar is exausted, he still has a powerful blocking move. And to top it all off their team's ace striker is none other than [[spoiler: Minamisawa Atsushi]], who's probably the strongest non-Summoner striker you've faced at that point, he's scripted to get the ball on several occasions and he gets a scripted HeroicSecondWind towards the end of the match! Hope you've drained his TP by then!
** Alpine High afterwards are ''even worse''. You know [[spoiler: Atsushi]] above? Well immagine an even better version of him... who actually ''has'' an Avatar. And he scores an automatic goal early on. Nearly everyone on the team has a high-level dribbling or blocking skill, making it a pain to get past them ''or'' get the ball off them. Thankfully the team after them is a breather.
** ''Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy'' has the [[spoiler:Ratoinik Eleven]] as one of the most irritating matches in the series. Even though you confront them late into the game, they represent a huge difficulty spike from the rest of the game. To start off, most of the team has Forest type players and shoots, meaning that even if you use Ibuki's [[spoiler:soul]], they may still get past unless you are overleveled, thus forcing players to use either Shinsuke (who has weaker techs and stats) or a substitute goalkeeper they may have recruited [[spoiler:from Kidou's backup players]]. Second, the Goalkeeper is by far the toughest so far, using his [[spoiler:soul]] constantly and using an individually strong tech. The midfielders are also a pain, but by far the worst part is the stadium itself: [[spoiler:Galaxy has gravity gimmicks due to it being a game set in space]], and for the most part they work well: the first stadium to use this has the ball unable to bounce, the second stadium makes the ball unable to be lobbed into the air and instead encourages swift ground passes, and the third stadium, instead of the usual effects, has the ball unable to leave the bounds due to pressured steam comming out from the edges. This match? It has the ball bounce erratically making it frustrating to even pass the ball. If you are lucky, you will end up in the middle of 3 defenders. If not, then congratulations, you just passed the ball to the star striker of the enemy team.
* TrollingCreator: After Gojou, who was a very minor character, hits number one position of the character polls (largely due to trolling) during promotion of the first movie. The creators decide to roll with that and place Gojou in GO as well. They even put Gojou's relative in [[VideoGame/DanballSenki another show by the same company]].
** Endou ends up with [[spoiler: Natsumi]] but this upsets the [[spoiler: Aki]] fans, might as well pair Endou up with [[spoiler: Fuyuka in an alternative continuity]] to please them because hey, it's ''kind of'' similar!
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Fudou Akio.
* ValuesDissonance: Mamoru and co. are startled when they discover that Tsunami is one year older than them, and look genuinely frightened that they might have offended him by addressing him so informally. To Western audiences, this will seem like a highly exaggerated reaction.
* '''ViewerGenderConfusion''': Expect to mistake a really pretty boy for a girl now and then. ... Actually, often.
** '''Kirino Ranmaru''' from GO. It's impossible to tell he's a boy unless you've either played the game or noticed that the sub (or even dub) mentions Kirino as a "he", in fact he's so feminine to the point that some people have actually accused him of being a crossdresser.
** And then ''[[RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms Zhuge Liang]]'' turns out to actually be a girl...
* '''TheWoobie''': Everyone has at least one moment of this. Fubuki is the most prominent example from the first series because he spends such a long time struggling over it. Also, Taiyou, who's terminally ill and yet still loves soccer and is on the recieving end of a major CurbStompBattle from Raimon and Shuu, [[spoiler: who's litte sister got used as a HumanSacrifice thanks to losing a soccer game and blames himself for it]].
** IronWoobie: Tenma starts out as this in the beginning of ''GO''. Also the entire Raimon team in both series could qualify. ''Chrono Stone'' adds Yuuichi.
** JerkassWoobie: [[spoiler:Fudou]]. And [[spoiler:Kariya]], in ''GO''. Kogure to a lesser extent. Heck, even the BigBad [[spoiler: Senguuji Daigo]] is one. His methods of controlling soccer are brutal, but you can't help but admit his childhood ''sucked''.
* {{Woolseyism}}: Though the dubbed character names are honestly laughable, the localizations of the games themselves aren't half bad. One notable instance is in the first game, where Zeus's [[SuperSerum Aqua of the Gods]] is changed to "ambrosia", which both rolls off the tongue a lot better and fits quite nicely into the Myth/GreekMythology theme of the team.
** One case where a DubNameChange actually fits: Shuu gets given a vaguely {{Mayincatec}} name, which makes sense when you learn his backstory, as [[spoiler: using ball games to determine [[HumanSacrifice Human Sacrifices]] was TruthInTelevision for those cultures]].
